Hello Folks Ok here it is 3 months and I had a dr appt. and I didn't have good feeling afterwards. When I started the program I was 297 busted my ass and got down to 240 at surgery (15 lower than requested) now I am 205. only 35 pounds in 3 months. I went on a cruise to Mexico and what a mistake all that food and temptation. NOTHING effects me other than being constipated. I wish food made me sick. I have terrible head hunger and because I am not taking the diet pills. It is so easy to just take a little bite here and a little bite there. I am thinking about taking something to curb the cravings ( I was taking Meridia) My dr said diet pills are a crutch for the lame. OK I am lame. He also said there are no platoes. If I stay at a certain weight its because I am eating too much ( I am on Kaisers 1/4 cup 3 x a day program and its sooo hard to follow) So how much has everyone else lost? Any suggestions for my urges to snack? Does anyone take diet pills to kill the cravings?

I have to respectfully disagree with your doctor. My weight remains the same for up to 2-3 weeks and I am not eating too much. Prior to surgery on one of my thousands of diets, I was eating a measured 800 calorie diet for 8 weeks...and not only did I plateau, I GAINED weight at the end. I did not cheat. I'd swear my life on it. That being said, I personally would not take appetite supressants...BTDT-bought-the-t-shirt. I just figure those meds are no good, just because they never really worked for me (just my experience though). I take that back...PhenFen worked for me very well. I never wanted to eat! However, we all know how unsafe that was. Are you eating enough protein to curb your appetite? Try 100 gms a day. What about protein shakes to help add fluids and protein? When I don't do mine, I notice that I want to pick at foods all day...nibble. Like this weekend. How much fluid are you drinking? That really curbs your appetite too! What are you taking bites of? Is it not the best stuff, nutritionally speaking (chips, cookies, crackers)? How about doing this: When I get the urge to munch, I will eat a nut or two (but I keep track of how many per day), then at the end of the day, I add it up and figure that I had one serving (then I add it to Fitday). I have also done this with protein bars, just had a bite at a time, but finished the bar by the end of the day (then I log it). Or yogurt (I have one going in the fridge right now, in fact). I started at 290 and I'm at 232.5 today. I eat anywhere from 800-1000 calories a day in general including protein supplementation. Chele

Awwwwww Ginger! It's no wonder we're WLS Twins!! I know we are not alone. It just feels that way most of the time. We all think, "I must be the only one experiencing this", from time to time. But if you post it here, someone always steps in and says, "Me too!!" Every group meeting I go to I spend half the day trying to talk myself out of going, but 99% of the time I do go. Only time I missed was because I was sick. What I liked about the meeting I was at last night was (though it was difficult), I either knew where one of the other people were coming from, or they understood me and where I was coming from. I don't get that at the usual meeting I attend. Maybe that was in part because there is a real counselor at this meeting, not just post op patients. Someone who could truly 'guide' the meeting. I am with you on the virtual crying party with a sappy chick flick, popcorn (with spray), and tissues included! I am sooooooo there! MIRRORS Bam! Bam! Bam! Huggs. Ruth

Kymberlee I had surgery on January 30, 2006 out of South San Francisco Kaiser with Dr. Gorrin. I'm 2 months 3 weeks 3 days out and 60 pounds down since the morning of surgery..... I haven't seen anyone since two weeks out when Dr. LI took my staples out. This Tuesday I meet with Dr. Stiles. I let you know what she say's...I don't work out every day at curves since I work full-time then volunteer at another facility. But i do walk alot around work and when I get home I work out on my ecumbent bike and walk around the neighborhood or high school track. Do you attend there mandatory post-op meetings? I have except for the last one since I had to work a double shift. I haven't taken diet pills since i was 21 when I was dieting long long time ago. They only work for a short period then all the weight comes back afterwards when you stop them. I try to drink more water, crystal light, decaf sf chai tea, but my downfall is crunchy nutty salted things. I have tried to keep soy crisps, soy nuts, and if I have calories to spare I keep turkey jerky around. Have you tried steak or salad yet? The book states salad is okay but 6 months for steak... I went to a hawaiian b.b.q. place and ordered b.b.q. chicken, b.b.q. ribs and b.b.q. steak for dinner yesterday for everyone....I took 3 small bites of steak from my husband and it went ok no problems. Then I took a couple of bites of chicken. I started to eat salad this week its not much but it seems to fill me up much quicker. I have been eating about 8 baby spinach leaves with the steams pulled off, 1 oz of grilled chicken or can chicken, 1 string cheese, 3 tablespoons of soy nuts then 2 tablespoons of oil salad dressing or 3 tablepoons of fatfree garlic ranch. I noticed the creamy the easier it goes down.. Love to hear more about a fellow Kaiser patient going through gastric bypass...... Take care and good luck with your weight loss... P.S. Did you doctor tell you how much he/she expected you to use in 3 months? I'm just curious.... SUZAN

Good for you Diana...I still want to try the gazelle sometime. Do they sell them in stores where I might demo one?

Hi Vickie, It's nice to see a newbie around here. I had open RNY five months ago. I had complications with a lung embulism and a wound that didn't heal correctly. I had to be reopened and they found a 1/2 inch long black soucher that caused an infection in my belly. My back still hurts between the shoulder-blades...I too kinda shrugged it off figuring that it was just a poisture issue, but now I'm not so sure. I wore a binder while I was still in the hospital (I was in there 14 days) but my binder kept slipping while I tried to settle in my hospital bed. I just took it off at about the 7th day..it was too cumbersome for me, but I was on complete bedrest...couldn't even walk around the hospital due to my blood clot. To be truthful, I didn't start feeling right till about 2 1/2 months. I know that it sounds like a long time to be feeling crappy, but that my story and I'm stickin' to it. many others here had open RNY and have had very little complications. I hope they chime in here to encourage you. HugsGinger

I had open Ryn and did great last year. I found stretching by reaching upwards and to the right and left gently helped with the soreness. I felt better after about two weeks. Good luck, Loris

I had open rny on December 19, 2005. I was hunched over and walking like a little old lady for quite awhile. I was off prescription pain meds in less than a week after I was home from the hospital. But, I stayed on Tylenol PM for awhile to help me sleep better. My sleep pattern was totally messed up the first few weeks after surgery! Everyone experiences and tolerates pain differently. I went back to work at 4 weeks, but I could have used another week home. I wore my binder for close to 3 months after surgery. I felt more comfortable with it on. It was snug, but not too tight. It also gave me a 'sense of security', if you will. Hope this helps. Huggs, Ruth

Kymberlee, Please be very careful about the diet pills. My mom had this surgery. She hit a plateau and took something to help her feel full. It became like cement in the opening. She has had major problems since then. And yes I still had the surgery. I will never take a diet pill for that reason. I have hit two plateaus since surgery and have just waited them out. I started out at 299. Lost to 272 the day of surgery and I'm now 230. Hang in there and know you are doing good. Hugs, Cathy
