Surgery in mexico?
Good morning everyone! My mom was asking last night about having surgery in Mexico. Did anyone here do that and what could you tel me about it? She was wondering if they do lap band or just bypass, and how much was it? Also would she have to go to Mexico for check ups or could she just have the surgery there, then follow up with someone else around here? Does anyone know of a website she could go for this info? Thanks for your help!
Karyn

Hey Karyn,

Karyn,
I had RNY in Mexico by Dr. Joya. It was just great. He is in Puerto Vallarta. I had no complications and have a Doctor in the U.S. for my follow up.
You can E-mail me anytime with any questions. I had a great experience and have been successful so far... He also does Lap-Band there also. There is a South of the Border Messageboard here on OH.

Hi Karyn
I had lap RNY in Monterrey Mexico. You can check out my profile, I have lots of details and a few photos. I used Dr Roberto Rumbaut. He's one of the most expenisve surgeons in Mexico, but IMO one of the best. He does lapbands and lap RNY. In fact, he has a lapband himself!
I reserached this for a long while before I chose a surgeon, as I was self pay and cost was important, but care was more important. My husband (who also had lap RNY) was just short of 500 pounds when we went to Mexico and I wanted to make sure we had the best surgeon, the best care and the best hospital. The south of the border forum on OH is a bit slow, but here's a link:

Keep reminding yourself that you didn't intake over 3,000 calories more than you burned yesterday but that's what it takes to truly gain 1 pound of real weight. Most likely your 1 pound is just normal body fluctuations.
No, you didn't have a bad day! A couple of miles is awesome - I'd call that a great day, actually.
