Vitamin D
Hello friends,
So I had a conversation with my endocrinologist today. He said that Vitamin D deficiency is a very big concern with him. It causes bone problems. (I have not researched this yet, when I do I will post some links)
He has other patients that have had WLS and said that some of them take up to 50000 yes fifty thousand IUs per week. I am taking about 3500 IUs per week.
So he ordered a lab for Vit D - specifically - 25 Hydroxy Vitamin D and we will discuss my supplementaion when the labs come back.
Talk to your docs and see what they say. I'd like to hear from some of you on this. I am also going to talk to my surgeon next week.
I also had these labs drawn
prolactin - hormone
estradiol - hormone
progesterone - hormone
testosterone - hormone
SHBG Sex Hormone Binding Globulin
DHEAS - evaluates adrenal function and distinguish between androgen secreting adrenal conditions from those that originate in the ovary
TSH - thyroid
Free T4 - thyroid
Free T3 - thyroid
Hemoglobin Glyucosylated - A1c - average amount of glucose in the blood over the last few months
Who has a binder with all of their lab info in it???? I have to get my act together.
God bless,
Jen
Sounds like he is running the basic labs for PCOS. I don't see insulin on there, but that would be the only thing I can think of he didn't order.
I had my labs from my surgeon drawn on my birthday last week. I haven't received the results, but when I do I plan on getting a copy and putting it in a binder.
I haven't heard a whole lot regarding vitamin D deficiency, but I'm going to keep my ears open...

AiC will show him your blood sugar levels over a period of the past 3 months....
No, I don't currently have an endocrinologist. I see my PCP. Though, when we were TTC, I had a great Reproductive Endocrinologist *****ally knew her stuff!
It's really difficult in this area to find a good Endocrinologist. I saw one when I was in the hospital and pregnant with the twins (I had GD) and while he was good in treating me with the GD, he didn't seem entirely all that knowledgable about PCO. When I asked him about Met, etc...he said that the most important thing for me is to LOSE WEIGHT.
Ya don't say!
duhhhhhhhhhhhh

I am one of those who has a medical binder with every test result I can get my hands on. I became facinated with this a few years ago when I got heavy into vegetarianism and started working with my first nutritionist. Every 6 months I'd have blood work (sometimes at my own request) to monitor everything. It all was great until I started on the dark side again (eating meat) and then I got to watch everything go up....and here we are today.
When I was doing all my preop tests I brought copies of past blood work to all my appts. Most - including an endocronologist - threw it away without a glance. Except the Cardiologist, he went thru every report and listed to all I did with each one.
I hated the endo lady, she told me to go to weigh****chers.
