Hi to all on the Jan. board! My RNY was 1/6
The surgery itself went well, so I'm told. I had horrible problems with over-sedation and nausea postoperatively- I was on 7 different things (including steroids) for nausea.
I was confused/delirious and sleeping constantly. They got concerned about the nausea and sent me for an extra leak test (which was negative.
I was so sleepy and out of it that I needed respiratory treatments and oxygen. I ended up taking myself off of all pain medications except for plain tylenol on the 4th day. I came home the next day, but they sent me home with oxygen and nebulizer treatments for breathing.
Don't let this scare any of you- I feel that I was in good hands the entire time, and the doctor, NP, and nursing staff were absolutely wonderful. This is just how I generally react to anesthesia and to opioid pain medications, so I guess that I'm not surprised.
I'm staying at my parent's house until next week, then I'll be heading home. Each day has been a little bit better- I have been very tired, which is also to be expected. I am on full liquid diet, which has been going well. I'm not hungry or full- just keeping up with the fluids and protein. No nausea or diarrhea now.
I apologize for being "absent" for the past 10 days. I just could't get to the computer to post. Everyone has been in my thoughts- I can't wait until I'm feeling well enough to read how everyone is doing!
GOOD LUCK to everyone with surgery in the next few days!

Hope all goes well and post as soon as you are home so we know how you did!

I am looking for ideas and good recipes for my next stage... the puree/mushie stage! Yeah! I am sooo looking forward to something other then clear liquids! Everything tastes too sweet right now. The SF jello, the SF koolaid, juices, SF pops! YUCK! Even when i water them down.
I can't wait to have an egg. I hope my pouch like them as much as I do.
So how are all you January people doing?? Post-ops?? Pre-ops... I am 5 days out and I feel great!

Best of Luck,Bri
Surgery date: Jan 19,2009
Rescheduled for : Feb 11,2009
I was also bumped up a day, it made me more anxious and excited.
so I know how you feel!
You can do it.
See ya on the other side.
who had the surgery complained of nausea,
but I can tell you it wasnt from the surgery, it was from the
painkillers.
We were given a PACU where we push the button for more
morphine/demoral whateveer pain medication. so basically
they were getting nauseous from pushing for more pain meds.
good luck with your weight loss!
When I lose weight it comes back, so I'm hoping
with this will be no exception.
Like a friend who was playing hide and seek too long.
Funny to say but please come back LOL
