Wow.  Just hearing from everyone is so encouraging.  I am more excited than scared.  And I have been a "white tornado" in my house too.  I've cleaned closets, behind dressers, etc.  My DH asked me if I was nesting.  LOL  Thanks for all of the support and yes I will keep you posted.

Topic: No expert but have info on gas situation....
I am not  an expert but just wanted to share some info I received on Friday from my preop nurse about anesthesia and the gas. There are 2 reasons why the gas bothers us so much. One being that they have to pump us up with the co2 so the doctor can see what he's doing. Normally that takes a few days or more for our bodies to reabsorb it. The second reason is that when they put us to sleep EVERYTHING goes to sleep including our intestines. She told me that it takes longer for the intestines to fully wake up if you will because it needs something to help push the gas out of it ( food, liquid). Hope this makes since. Once we have a regular amount of stuff going through it again it will then wake up and not have us feeling so bloated and icky feeling. This could take up around 2 weeks or so. I noticed that ALOT of people were having problems with gas so I made sure to ask all of those questions. She said pain meds help a little but walking really helps the most to get everything up and going. Good luck to everyone who is having surgery and to those that have had surgery I'm wishing  you all a speedy recovery. Here's to a fabulous 2009.

Hi there and glad you are on your way to a speedy recovery times two.

Better they find it there and correct it before you got home.

Now sit and relax and heal up.

Liz,

No nausea for me, other than when I tried to crush and mix meds with yogurt.  No way, no how can I take it.  Have you tried a little chamomile or peppermint tea?  Not too hot, just warm.  This might settle your grouchy pouchy.

Good afternoon friends,

Today is another good day, I got to take my shower.  Felt SO good.  I am doing really well, no nausea other than when I've tried to crush my regular meds they want me to try to take.  They are SO bitter I can't do it.  I will call my PCP tomorow and see if we can cut them altogether.

Some aren't so bad but metformin is the worst. I'd rather take insulin than try to gag that cr_p down.

My incisions don't hurt at all.  I think for me the only discomfort I have is the spot where the drain was and it is healing very nicely.  Having the drain taken out was no biggie, just feels a bit weird but I wouldn't say it hurt.  It took 2 seconds or less and it was done.  I am not sure if all surgeons use them (I would think yes) but it's the only part of my abdomin that continues to be sore.  I think I may not need pain meds tonight, we'll see.
