Topic: RE: How much food are you eating?
Michelle, I am not sure if I am eating too much either. I do allow myself too much junk food here lately. Normally for breakfast I have wither a Qsmart bar or a carb-well breakfast bar with a cup of coffee. That is the only caffeine I allow myself and it is limited to 1 cup a day. For snack I might have a piece of fruit or 1/2 pack of cheese & crackers (depends on what is in the cabinet at work) For lunch I eat a small chef salad-eating the meat, cheese and boiled egg first or I might just eat a few slices of cheese and reduced sodium deli ham. For dinner it is usually steak or chicken.(I can eat a chicken thigh.) with vege's and side dish. For a snack I have sugar-free ice cream of some sort or cantalope and strawberries. I am not loosing any more weight. I bounce between 151-156. I often have what I call "HUNGARY" days where no matter what I eat just doesn't fill me up. But the next day or two I am not hungary at all. A friend who has had the surgery says she does the same thing. Except she eats the healthy food and right now I am addicted to Funyeon ring chips. I was eating a big bag a day, but now I have limited myself to one a week. I still do not eat deep fried foods. I still do not drink soda or anything with sugar. I use splenda. I have discovered SUGAR-FREE ORANGEADE from tropicana. It is good. I allow myself 1 glass a day. MY THOUGHTS--- DO NOT FALL OFF THE WAGON LIKE I HAVE AND IF YOU DO PICK YOURSELF BACK UP AND START OVER. TODAY IS A NEW DAY!!!

Topic: RE: BUFFETS??
We go to the buffet because many of our family and friends like to go and fellowship together there. Neither my husband or I have ever used a restaurant card but there are several buffets that will allow you to pay per pound off of the buffet tables. That way you can still enjoy whatever foods you like and you can pay for whatever quantity you would like to eat and still sit down and enjoy your company as they enjoy their buffet. Jeneen -90lbs

Hi Ronda, I just wanted to put my 2 cents in. I was told before surgery by a women and she said that she would feel deprived because she would always order a side salad or something cheap. She said it was really making her feel deprived. I remember that when we go to the buffets. I dont look at it as money, but entertainment with my family/friends. I eat the expensive stuff and take my time eating. Good luck to you Sarah G 5/16/04 -200

Rhonda, I never use the restaurant card. Yes, we do go to buffets now and I do OK. I don't worry about the cost, just pick a buffet that has lots of protein on it. The salad bar buffets just don't work for me. I want at least a small piece of chicken. My husband enjoys the buffets and as long as they are reasonably priced, I agree it is OK to go. I don't feel that I over eat when we go, so that helps too. I've never asked for special pricing at the buffet. Mary

Sarah, Know you are going thru a tough time. Hope you feel better soon. My girlfriend had her tonsils out (she's in her 30's) last month. It took a couple of weeks for her to start feeling better. She lost her voice totally the first week. She's doing great now. Remember too that the drugs to put out for the surgery stay in your system for a while. It is not uncommon to experience the blues after surgery. If you still don't feel well tho after the weekend, don't hesitate to call your doctor. Sending you hugs and good thoughts. Mary

Wanda, How wonderful that you were able to help others out. It is so comforting to be able to talk to someone who has actually gone thru the surgery when you are a newbie researching it. Mary

Sarah, I've been in your shoes many times, and things always seem to work out somehow. I'll be thinking of you. Make sure you're good to yourself first and don't worry too much about things that are beyond your control. That's the best thing for generally good mental health I've ever found. Linn

I don't have nearly as much trouble with the price as my husband does. We almost never go to buffets unless we're going with friends who want to go because my husband can't see paying the price for it. I've never used a restaurant card, but on those rare occasions when we do go to buffets, I often eat things that would be more expensive to buy anyway (like crab legs, salmon, and shrimp coctail). I figure it all evens out in the end. Linn

I almost never go as I know I can't possibly eat enough to make it worth my money and also because I know that I'll be tempted to overeat when there's so much to choose from. I did recently go to a restaurant where access to the buffet came with the meal. My Mom and I just told the waitress that I was a bypass patient so I would be eating the meal and my Mom would be using the buffet. She was fine with that and it worked well, but I know not all restaurants are as accomodating. I don't use a restaurant card at all. I generally just split a meal with someone else or buy what I want and take home the leftovers. Julie
