Topic: RE: Have you GAINED any weight??
I too have gained back about 20 lbs. Glad to see I'm not the only one. As long as I stay under 200 lbs I'll be happy but I'm hovering right below it. I can eat a whole sandwich and just about anything I want to eat as far as sweets. Jody

Milissa, Please don't think of yourself as a failure ... you aren't!!!! Altho I have lost 131 lbs, I'm still considered obese. I'm below my surgeon's goal for me of 180 ... I'm at 174. But since I'm only 5'1" I'm still about 40 or 50 lbs overweight and won't have a normal BMI unless I lose those extra pounds. I try not to focus on the weight loss but the health advances I have made ... no more sleep apnea, no more high blood pressure, arthritis so much better etc. I know that I eat too many carbs (bread is an issue for me). I don't eat more than a bite of any bad things cause I know for sure that I do dump. It is hard. But if we do protein first, drink lots of fluids, exercise and follow the rules the weight should come off eventually. I think for some tho it is a struggle. I'm going thru that struggle now. I'm not gaining, but I am sure not losing. Weigh****chers is a great support system however counting the points could mean way too much food for us as WLS post-ops. Sorry if I'm rambling. I do understand --- I'm going thru it too right now. Mary 305/174/????

The amount of food I can hold varies by what kind of food I eat. I have been known to hold up to 1 1/2 cups of food in one sitting. I sometimes wonder about myself . Here is what my day usually looks like: Breakfast: 8 oz protein shake snack: 4 oz yogurt lunch: 3 oz of deli ham, turkey or chicken wrapped in about 2 oz of either swiss or pepperjack cheese slices. snack: 1/2 - 3/4 cup low fat cottage cheese supper: 3 oz meat, 1/2 - 3/4 cup vegetable (Depending on if I eat the starch I fix for the rest of the family. If I do have the starch, I try to keep it at 1/2 cup), and a salad with bleu cheese or ranch dressing. snack: (here is where I get in trouble!) I try to have a snow cone made with sugar free syrup (Thanks, Mary!!!), but sometimes I fall of the wagon and have an ice cream cone. And to be honest, I sometimes will snack in the evenings on popcorn or pringles. I have been doing pretty good here lately in curbing my snacking, but could have a relapse any day! I'm probably not the person to go by. I meet with my bariatric surgeon on the 12th. I hope to learn more about what I should be doing from her and the nutritionist at that visit. Wanda

Wanda, Thanks so much for the encouraging words! You're right, I shouldn't consider myself a failure... especially since I keep trying!! I guess I just get disappointed that I wasn't one of the people that managed to get all of the weight off. But I will strive through this!! Question for you, about how much are you able to eat at a time... I know that is one of my problems. The doctor and the nutritionist said that I didn't build up the scar tissue like I should have around my anastimosis (sp); therefore, food doesn't stay in my pouch like it should. I just have to be extra careful of what I eat and have to have self control in how much I eat!! Thanks again, Milissa

Milissa, You're not alone. I still have about 30 pounds to go to reach what is considered normal weight for me. I haven't lost any weight to speak of since December 2004. Like you, I haven't gained any and no matter what I do, the rest just won't come off. I have just about resigned myself to the fact that I'm going to have to be happy where I am. I'm hoping that my body is just adjusting to the new me and the weight loss will kick in again soon. It sounds like you are doing what you can by going to Weigh****chers. They do have a really good program. Please don't consider yourself a failure. You have come a long way in the past 19 months. I'm sure you're much healthier now. Best of luck to you and I do hope someone can post the secret.... I sure could use it too! Wanda

Hi Everyone! It's been a very long time since I've been here (just visited for the first time yesterday in about 9 or so months!) From what I can see by reading all of your posts, you have all done really well in getting the weight off I however (same old story) am still struggling! I finally broke down about 9 weeks ago and joined Weigh****chers and I am losing extremely slow!! Though I'm happy about the weight that I have lost so far between WLS and WW, but I still have so far to go... about another 45 - 50lbs. I'm feeling like a failure that I didn't get all the weight off with the surgery, I don't eat the wrong foods, I haven't gained any weight since the surgery, and exercise, but I just can't figure out the secret. I know there is no magical cure, but I sure could use some help and I would gladly take any advice from any of you! Thanks and Hope to hear from all of you! Milissa

I too have gained about 15 lbs. I bounce around with about 5 lbs, but the 10 lb weight gain seems to be permanent. I too make terrible food choices. I can eat all of a small sandwich such as a single hamburger or fish sandwich from McDonalds. I do OK thoughout the day, but at NIGHT--OMG. I don't eat because I'm hungry, I eat out of boredom & nerves. My husband has been out of work since July 29th. He is a truck driver. He drove local for 25 years & then his company got rid of him right before his 50th birthday when he would have been fully vested for lifetime retirement benefits & I would have gotten lifetime benefits even if something unfortunate would have happened to him. Oh well, here he is at 50 years old trying to get with a new company. (But he will be a long distance driver) He will find out on Wednesday if he got a job he has been trying for the last couple of weeks. BAD NEWS--he has gallstones that need immediate surgery. (which is this Thursday) He talked to he HR of the company he is courting & they said that if he is picked for the job that all he has to do is give them a date he can start. WHEW!!! Hopefully I will be back to work in the next 5 weeks (post op PS) & I work a 2nd job at night, so maybe that will cut down some of the eating. Sorry about the long post--it helped venting!!! Debbie -155 lbs & 8.86 lbs of Fat & Skin (if the swelling ever goes away)

Lee, Sorry for the late reply, but I haven't been here in about 9 months!! I just wanted to let you know that you are not alone in the fertility thing... I'm 37 yrs old and found out that I'm going through menapause due to chemo at 21yrs old. My husband and I were trying to get pregnant ourselves and I was trying every little gadget that I could find to tell me when I ovulated... well, it never happened. Last January my OBGYN told me that my levels were way off and I would never be able to produce an egg at this point. My world fell apart! I am in the process of being matched up with a donor as we speak. As with you, it's a very expensive journey that we are taking (luckily our insurance will cover some of the expenses, but not all). The hormone shots are a thrill... between the mood swings and the insatible hunger!! My point is, keep your head up and pray! I unfortunately don't have any magic words to make it all better, but thought that it might help knowing that you are not alone in your struggles! I'm sure you've done the fake smile and "We're trying" to the family and friends that continually ask you about being pregnant. Seems relentless sometimes, doesn't it?! Stay positive any way you can and continually call your insurance company about coverage... Mine turned me down the first 4 times I called and finally it kicked in! Just like with the WLS, you have to play the "game" to get coverage. I also wanted to say that you look great in your picture and at least you have won that battle.... The battle I'm still struggling at! I still have roughly 45 - 50lbs to lose after having the surgery 2/5/04. I joined Weigh****chers and it's coming off very slowly, but at least it's coming off! I'll get there one day! Good luck to you and your husband and I'll keep you both in my prayers!

Hi Lee...you sound pretty good. A very good friend of mine had two rounds of IVF and now has two kids. Ihope that you are able to realize your dream. I'm still pregnant, at about 18 weeks today. My due date is 2.26.06 -a couple of months ago, my OB/GYN was concerned that I had lost 8 pounds in 1 month - Yes, it was shocking that a medical professional was concerned with excessive weight loss. I was concerned that I would have gained 10 pounds, I had been eating a lot. The doc. even said, we don't want to have to put you on a 3000 calorie diet, so jus****ch what you are doing. Since then, I've gained 2 pounds and have my next pre-natal visit on October 11 for the stage 2 ultrasound. I may be able to have the sex detected then. Not sure if I want to know or not. I'm considered "higher" risk, due to my advanced maternal age - 36. that hasn't meant anything to me at this point. I'm faced to decide whether to have a VBAC or repeat c-section. Do I want to breast or bottle feed and do I want my tubes tied. decisions, decisions. my weight gain is not a concern for me right now...just the health of the baby. Keep your fingers crossed for me. I will for you as well. Keep me posted on your baby journey. hugs, Denise
