Topic: RE: Scared to eat meat
Hi Ben,
I was feeling just like you. I tried some meat about 3 weeks out and I got a blockage that took about 8 hours to pass and I was in so much pain and so sick, that I did not want to try it again. I tried meat once again about 10 days ago...just took a small bite but it did not feel right so I quit....I was feeling like I was never going to get to eat meat and actually feeling a little down about it. Then about 3 days ago, I ate a couple small pieces of chicken in a salad and it worked so the next night I cut some meat off of some chicken wings that my husband was eating and did fine...so, tonight I made myself 1 chicken breast, cooked it only long enough to be cooked (not dried out) with some great seasonings and I was able to eat 1/2 of it before I felt full...no problems at all. Everyone kept telling me to just keep trying every week or two until your body agrees and that I would get there... and they were right...I feel very good now and not so stressed out about my food. Just go very slow and only try one bite and wait about 5 minutes to see if it goes down before continuing. Good luck!

I have a problem too with eggs.. I am 2 months out.. And chicken too is hard to get down--tried all ways and sometimes it goes down sometimes it does not--so my nutrtionist just tells me to keep on trying as time goes by....

Topic: RE: Stuck at 27 pounds
I had surgery 2/20/07 and I am stuck at 28 lbs. I actually lost 18 lbs the first week and then stalled/fluctuated until last week and now have lost another ten. I notice that my stall went through my monthly cycle and then when that was over, the stall stopped. Hope its helpful.
For those that have lost in the 30's, I'd love to know what your starting weight was and how much you have to lose. I am trying to determine if people with more to lose, lose it faster. Of course, if that's too personal, I'm not trying to be nosy....

To everyone above. I lost 28 pounds in my first month and then had a 3 and a half week stall!
In that time I found out it was normal and very common to have a stall heading into your second month. It can be very long, so keep your chin up and just work through it. they say you might be able to bust the stall by changing out your protein intake and excersise routine. That didn't work for me, though... when I broke the plateau it was just like any other day.
3 and a half weeks is a long time! You might not stall out that long, or you might stall out longer. Just know it is really pretty common in this time period, and it will pass.
When I busted mine last week I started losing a pound a day, and I haven't stopped yet.

Hey all,
My surgery was 2-27-07 and I am stuck at 33 pounds for about a week. I have been taking measurements and some of those are down slightly. I know I am not getting enough liquids, so I am working on increasing. I think I am going to have to be more diligent about eating and plugging everything into fitday.com so I can keep better track of what I am doing.
It sure is nice that we have this forum because it can feel like no one else has the same problem until someone else posts it.

Topic: RE: What to eat
Congratulations on your surgery! My surgery was on 2/6/2007, and I have lost 63 pounds so far, and boy has it made a difference. Here is what my nutritionist has given me as a guideline for my diet, but as always, you may want to check with your surgeon and his time line. But here is what I eat:
I eat 5 meals a day, and drink 64 oz. of water - (fluid) a day. Each meal consists of 2 ounces of protein (1/4 cup), in EVERY meal, with 2 oz. of either fruits, vegetables and starches (interchanged). For a total of 4 oz meals. Starches should be limited to 4 ounces a day.
Is this as clear as mud? For example: Breakfast is 2 oz. protein, & 2 oz. fruit. Lunch is 2 oz protein and 2 oz. veggies, Mid afternoon is 2 oz. protein & 2 oz. veggies, Dinner is 2 oz protein & 2 oz. starch, & Meal 5 is 2 oz. protein & 2 oz. fruit
breakfast protein could be eggs, yogurt, protein shake w/skim milk,
Lunch protein could be cottage cheese, canned tuna, canned chicken, 2% milk cheeses, ham, turkey etc.
Dinner protein can be lean beef, chicken, lamb, pork, ham, turkey, veal, cottage cheese, tuna, salmon, shrimp, fish etc.
starches I do well with are plain crackers (1 serving), oatmeal, cream of wheat, grits, beans (pinto, navy, kidney, lima), black-eyed peas, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, baked potatoes but remember you can only have 4 oz. for the whole day.
I also take "Optisource" vitamins daily, and try to get in 60 gms. of protein in a day.
I know this is confusing, it was for me, but feel free to email me privately and I would be happy to help!
Good Luck!! Terri

Hey ladies... I had my surgery on 2-20-2007 and all was going well for the first 4 weeks and lost 38 pounds...and now I am stuck... I thought it was due to being time for my montly but I didn't start that either... must be something about being this far post op...but I want more. I do my walking and drink my water... my doctor didn't really want to put me on any protein shakes...so the protein I get is only through my food.. some I keep down and some I don't.... good luck ladies I know we will all start losing again soon. Also I read that even if the scales don't show it you still could be losing inches... so you may want to take measurements.

I am the same way! I now drink water when I get up with my vitamins. Then after I take a shower and get ready I mix one of the IDS Whey Protien Fruit Punch Bullets (look **** big test tubes) with Ice and water and sip it on my way to work. It has about 24 grams of protien. I usually eat breakfast about 10 - 10:30 and I am feelong better then. The IDS had an orange flacor as well and has 42 grams or protien.
Good Luck,
Lisa
