Topic: RE: Puree Questions??
I feel like I live off Taco Bell or Taco Bueno pinto beans. I add a little low-fat cheese and low-fat sour cream, not to exceed 2 oz for the whole meal. I love that and half my meals are that. I also have found more ready made protein drinks that I like so I'm not eating alot. ...Jill

Topic: RE: Puree Questions??
I didnt really puree anything, I kept with mashed potatoes, tacobell pintos n cheese, poach your eggs and smash them a little, peanut butter was fine, scrambled eggs I have seen people post problems cause they are dry, tuna mixed with mayo should be fine, egg salad should be fine cause it is moistened, I kept with the S/F Popsicles a lot when I wanted to snack. I never tried the meats, afraid I would have problems with them as a lot of people do. Never really put anything in the blender. I guess thats not much help huh? As for the protien shakes, well, slim fast makes a good low carb one, I really liked the Atkins chocolate, this had more protien and less carbs, there is also a "whey protien" mix that I got at wal mart that works really great in coffe and a little nonfat S/F creamer, it has 23gr of protien, mix that with some soy milk and its just like chocolate milk! LOVE IT! I hope this will help you, Ben.

Topic: RE: eating to much?
Well, I was 6 weeks out yesterday. I've been on a "regular" food diet for over a week. I can eat "as tolerated". Maybe it's what you're eating, but it certainly doesn't sound like too much, unless you're eating like that most of the day, you know? I can take 6-8 ounces at mealtimes, and 4 for snacks. Nothing pureed or blended, just chewed really well. Good luck hon, and talk to your doc or nutritionist! Kat

First, congrats to you and your sis! I have tried meat, from chili and fish, to jerky and a few bites of steak. The rarer and leaner the meat, the better my stomach feels after. I love jerky when it's soft and thin! I think you just have to fix it the way you like it best and go with it. I still use the protein shakes with soy milk every day, so when I do eat, its usually just one meal. And yes, I've tried alcohol. I drank about a quarter of a "sex on the beach" and was tipsy. Good grief! This coming from the woman who could put away several mixed drinks and not "feel" a thing! Good luck! Kat

Topic: RE: 3 weeks out of surgery and eating too much?
I'm doing ok Debra, thanks for asking. I was really pleased that my post-op pain was mild (especially in comparison to my hernia surgery a few years ago.) I was able to sleep comfortably in my own bed after 5-6 days on the recliner. My surgeon's instructions would have me on mushies thru 30 days, but my nutritionist is encouraging me to move on to solid foods chewed well. I'm really reluctant to eat "real foods" just yet. Though what I have tried I'm doing well chewing and keeping down. Honestly, I'm afraid to find out that I can eat what I want. I've never been especially great on disciplining myself. I do well keeping the junk food out of my house but portion control is a difficult issue for me (and fast food too). I don't want to push the envelope. So I'm eating about one "solids" meal a day and mushies the rest right now. I lost 25lbs pre-op, then 20 lbs the first 2 weeks, but nothing since then. I plan on adding exercise in this week. I kind of feel lost in this gray area right now, but I know that's normal. I look forward to my follow up appointment with the surgeon on 3/28/07.

Hi...I'm a little over 5 weeks out and I haven't had any problems with meat yet. I've tried chicken and pork. And just this last weekend I had a very small piece of london broil steak. I've also had turkey jerky which is very tender and goes down really good. Now remember of course all these meats are very small bites and pieces. I know that everyone is different though ..but I guess you'll just have to try to find out..it might be better if your at home when you do. Good luck! Jennifer

Topic: Scared to eat meat
I am one month post op and on a solid diet. My sister and I had the RNY surgery on the same day and she has been trying a lot of meat cause she doesnt like the shakes. I have been making chocolate protien shakes out of the whey protien I found at Wal-mart. I get in 69 grams of protien just from that and then more from the 2% milk. after she eats meat, she has been and I dont want to. I find that I have anxiety and totally avoid meat. I do fine with ground meat like in chili or the famous Hamburger Helper but as far as steak, pork and chicken, I have heard so many horror stories I'm freaked out. Is anyone else having issues with meat? I need more input, help! Oh yeah, one more thing...has anyone tried to have alchohol yet?

I am one month post op from the RNY surgery. I was really hungry when I was on soft foods and could eat a little more than what they had said. I could drink more too, the thing is ...all liquids and soft foods go through your new stomach faster so you are getting more in. What you need to do is measure out what you are eating and stop. Let the food sit there for a while and let your body absorb the nutrients. I hate not being able to drink til 45 minutes after that either. It has been getting easier this week and I am getting the "full" feeling. Just stick to your diet and let your stomach heal and you will be fine. I had to really be hard on myself to change and control my eating habits! I feel I can eat alot more but thats where we come in, we need to change our habits, like one of the others said...This is a TOOL, and just as with anything that you buy, it comes with directions and we have to learn how to use it. You guys are doing GREAT and you ARE succeeding! Keep it up and follow your Dr's direction and it WILL get easier! Your going to LOVE the new you! Ben
