Topic: RE: 2 weeks post op ?????
Hi, I'm 3 weeks post op and started soft food while I was still in the hospital. I haven't tried fruit juice yet because if the sugar content. I've done well on soft food the whole time.
I went back to work yesterday and did fairly well. Trying to get the 60 onces of liquid is hard to do though, thats a lot!

Doh!! I always forget to see which surgery a poster had. I'm new here, can't ya tell?
Actually the nutritionist notes I have are aimed for RNY (the clinic just started seeing more Lap Band patients so they're adding it in) but the notes from the doctor I have don't seem any different with the exception of quantity. (doctors notes say 8oz every hour vs. 4oz from the nutritionist)
Anyway, I do realize that even within the same surgery type, folks may have different instructions from doctors. I was just thinking along the lines that sometimes it feels weird to hear of folks eating "heartier" than I am. I'm suffering along with the clear liquid folks for the time being. I keep telling myself I can do it and so far so good. I do think I may break out some V-8 splash.
I can also say that I was mighty happy to get that first BM out, but I swear it will be a week before I have another.

Hi Amy, I am not familiar with the grapefruit juice issue...I do know it is not on my list of OK juices though. I am allowed to have low pulp OJ...wonder what the acidic difference is there? If you are two weeks out, are you now on a "soft"diet? I am looking very forward to my "soft" diet...I do not care if I have to mash my avacados or carrots or squa**** all sounds yummy and better than soup!

Hi Pam,
I dont understand the difference as far as diets go, but I know in my nutrician class, the RNY's did get to eat a little different than the band...??? but just remember this is such a short time overall!!! We will get to have something normal soon!

I've been using Liquid Tylenol post-op also. I think 2 tablespoons is pretty close to 2 oz as well, so I don't think its an overdose. It's alot to drink, especially the first day when more than 2 baby sips would make me pace the room forcing a burp...but it just took some time. I have definitely spread it out over an hour. Our pharmacy had only one bottle when my husband went to pick up, the stuff is like gold to me. Narcotic meds give me horrible migranes so I'm really glad this is working fine for me.

I am also on a liquid only diet and my literature from both the doctor and the nutritionist calls for alternating protein drinks and clear liquids such as broth (and they specify not creamy soups) for the full 2-8 days postop. Still 4 more days to go for me. I know how you feel. I'd love cream of wheat, applesauce...heck anything listed above...but I'm so petrified of band slippage so I'm sticking with the boring stuff I have now till Saturday. So far 11lbs down, my surgery date was 2/23/07.

Congrats April! Best of luck to you on the liquid diet! I did it for 2 wks prior and really had to be creative to get thru it! Remember to partially freeze juices to make them different! You can even freeze slim fast drinks and it is like a smoothie!
Good luck with the ticker , i would love to know how to do it too.

Thank you soo much for responding. You do not know how much it means to me to see that someone even looked at my post. I have had little luck getting support on this msg board and the TX msg board. People rant and rave abt the outpouring of support that is available here and I have not seen it yet. I am soo upset right now, I am in tears.
I have tried to call my dr but they are sooo busy I have to leave messages for the nut to contact me. I fully understand that , so I am here for help!!!
Thanks again, Cissy!

Topic: 2 weeks post op ?????
Hello there! I am two weeks post op and have a silly question.. Has anyone been told not to drink acidic juices? Unfortunately my nutritionist and Dr. dont always offer the same info so I am not sure if it is OK to drink grapefruit juice. All the literature they gave me says that fruit juice is OK as long as you have small amounts and dilute 50/50 with water. No specific rules about what kind of fruit juice. But today my nutritionist called to check on me and said that I shouldn't have the grapefruit juice because of the acid. After two weeks of water and protein shakes the grapefruit juice was SOO! GOOD! I hate the thought of not drinking it now. Any ideas anyone? Thanks!

Lisa it's not too much, and may even be too little. but there needs to be somone professional to speak with about this...like a nutritionist. Did you have one pre op who gave you instructions? If not call your dr....for sure.
