Topic: 6 days post-op and finally a BM
OK, I know we talk about these things...even though it seems a little wierd...but I do want to share this in case anyone else is here and worried. The night before I went to the hospital I did use an enema. It was not required but everyone I talked to that had gone through this surgery said "do it". I have felt pretty good even though I had not had one yet because I was passing alot of gas and my surgeons office said if I had not done the enema they would expect one in a few days but the enema changes things a little and I should see one between day 5 and 7. Today is 6 and I finally had one. I have not been taking in that much "substance" so that probably contributed to it taking a while also. My average meals right now are: am-1 oz of cream of wheat or rice (because I HATE it), 3 oz. applesauce, and 2-3oz of yogurt, lunch:3-6oz. creamed soup and 2-3 oz. yogurt, dinner:3-6 oz. creamed soup, a little applesauce and SF pudding...sometimes I do wake up at night feeling nauseous and if I do, a clear broth takes it right away...I must just be a little empty/hungry. I am bored with these foods and wish there were more choices(that I liked) so I am looking forward to seeing my doctor in 8 days and moving to the next stage with some cottage cheese and beans. I also have not taken any meds for pain since last night around 6pm...so maybe I am done! I could even sleep on my side last night comfortably...Those first few days were awful but I am definately glad I did this...oh, and just for fun I did weigh myself...down 13 lbs...seems like a lot, but again, I am probably not eating enough.

Topic: RE: Home! and ?'s
Mariam, My Dr's advice was that I should have a BM within 24-48 hours of surgery. After my release from the hospital (a little more that 24 hours after surgery) they gave me some Milk of Magnesia to help me go. That still did not help so 24 hrs later I was told to take a second dose. That also did not help so I called the Dr. and they said the first BM is very important and to go to the phramacy and buy the Soda phos. which was VERY nasty and drink half the bottle. I did that and within 2-3 hours I finally went. That was about 3 1/2 days after surgery. I would say if you have not gone yet, you should call your surgeons office and let them know. It's imperative that you go because it's proof that everything is functioning properly. Even though you are on liquids you will still have some sort of output. I hope that helps. (we always talk about poop on these boards... ) Lori

Donna- You definately need support and maybe talking to those you love and telling them how much you need their support means to you and your sucess...they will catch on. Get in touch with a support group in your area and start meeting some of them. Best of luck to you.... Hugs, Lisa

Topic: Pls Help!!! how much should I be eating?
Hello - I had my lap band on 2/16 and am doing well, now. I have a question abt the qty of food i should be able to eat. I am currently consuming 6 oz protein shake in the morning, 6 oz soup afternoon, and 1/2 cup of refried beans for dinner. I might even sneak in a 1/2 cup serving of pudding later. Is that a lot? I am loosing some weight but am scared that I am eating too much.

Hello there and congrats on your success! I am five days out. I took liquid tylenol extra strength today after my surgeon telling me to do so. I took 2 ounces (the full dose) at one time. I would recommend taking 1 oz and then 30 minutes later take the other 1 oz. I did OK. It just filled my pouch really quickly, but then again, I am 5 days post op. It really did help my pain. ...Jill

My husband has been with me thru 2 c-sections, 1 yr ago and 3 yrs ago. He just went with me thru lap RNY 5 days ago. He was a jewel. And he knew before this surgery I would be going thru something big. He was also a jewel before, during and after my 2nd c-section. However, before my first c-section, he was kind of distant. He wasn't the most supportive beforehand. He had never been there and didn't truely know what I would need. I think he might have been afraid to mess things up. But when the time came and I needed him, he was a trooper, staying by my side and helping me. I bet once you get into the process, you will be amazed at what a help you husband really can be. Good luck to you and I'll keep you in my prayers! ...Jill
