Topic: RE: Am I being unreasonable?
Hi Donna, In the begining of my journey my family did not think that it was a Major surgery, but I took them to a few support group meetings, my appt with my surgeron the day before my surgery, and to see my friend in the hospital who just had the RNY surgery . I wanted them to know that support is VERY important to me and it's something that I will need forom them always. Once they got a look at all that they understood what I will be going through, because what happens to me has a effect on them in a way. I Had my surgery on Feb 8th and came home on Feb 10th, My fiance took off 1 week after I came home to help me ( I felt that after 1 week I should be able to do some things by myself) But all my family and friends called or stoped by to check on me. You should let them get on this website and have a look around so they can understand what you will be going through. I hope that they do give you 100% and more of their support, because you already have ours. Stephanie 329/299

Donna, Having a good support group is very critical t your success. If you don't have the support at home, I strongly recommend you get some folks together either via this message board, the Texas Message Board, or have your surgeon suggest a local support group. And yes, when you get home you are going to need LOTS of help for at least a week or more. Good luck and know that the folks here will be sending only the most positive thoughts your way! Danny

Got my surgery date of March 20th in Tj by Dr. Huacuz. Have my son traveling with me, we're going to take a few extra days to look around San Diego. Can't wait, gearing up for the pre-op diet. Also would like to put ticker in place but have no clue where to start. Please help with detailed instructions. Thanks

Hi My doctor told me to buy it on my way home from the hospital and use it instead of the narcotic pain killers if possible as the pain got less severe. Was fine. Shelley

Topic: RE: surgery time
I am having surgery on the 26th as well. I will look for you on the message boards when I get back home. My doctor said that will be Wed or Thursday evening. I am anticipating a very boring, common surgical experience. There is no benefit to stressing myself out at this point. The surgery will be alot of stress on me the way it is. I am trying to stay positive and am expecting the best. My husband is making homemade chicken stock today so that I will have some good broth to enjoy when I return from the hospital. I am feeling like I have a bit of a sore throat, I need to drink alot of fluids today to ensure it doesn't develope into anything.

I haven't but another person in my support group mentioned they had taken it early on in their recovery and the nutritionist leading the meeting seemed to indicate that that was fine. Congratulations on your weight loss. My surgery is tomorrow.

Topic: Am I being unreasonable?
I was just wondering if anybody else felt that their family wasn't really interested?? Maybe I'm just being ultra-sensative but, I don't think my family (hubby, kids, mom, brothers, etc....) are much interested in what will be happening to me and what I will be going thru. I have books, magazines, etc., but none have expressed an interested in reading anything on WLS. My hubby even asked "I'll have to take off a couple of days, won't I, because somebody will have to be here to help you won't they?". That kind-of hurt as, last year, I spent a month in the hospital with him and a week at home taking care of him. Also spent a month in the hospital with my son when he was injured. Took off work both times. I know they support me but, it would be nice if they showed some interest. Hubby thinks because he went to the seminar, he knows everything he needs to know. I don't think he has even looked at the pre-op info packet yet. Oh well....I guess I'm just being ridiculous because I'm starting to get a bit nervous and it just seems that nobody is noticing.

Topic: 3 weeks since surgery and doing good.
Hi, I'm new here and I'm going back to work tommrow after 3 weeks off! I'm a little worried about keeping things on schedule but I'm sure I'll make it. I still can't lay flat to sleep because my stomach is still too sore so I have to sleep in a recliner. Has anyone else had this problem? It's getting better little by little though. I've been lucky not to have had much nausea and no throwing up at all. My Dr. has me on very soft foods for the fIrst six weeks and I haven't cheated so I'm sure that helps. It sure will feel good to have a few more choices...three more weeks to go. Wish me luck!
