So glad to glance in the lives of others who are in this too. I had my surgery the 12th too. I am having a rough time also. My doc said that early on - worry more about getting in the protein and less about the fluids so I have been trying to make everything I take in have some protein in it. The CIB is better than the shakes and if you add a scoop of Beneprotein - it doesnt affect the taste and you get 6 more proteins. I am a little bored with the monotony of the food but my pain is getting me more than anything. I am so sore still and having a rough time, esp at night. I havent had too much gassy issues but had a bad am Sat with diarrhea (sorry) and I was praying almost to die already. It passed and I was afraid it was a lactose issue but I seem to be doing OK now. Let me know how you are doing with pain at this point. I was expecting more rapid improvement and am discouraged.

Hi, I only had to do liquids for 2 days before surgery, I ate sugar free popsicles and had some jello when I felt realy hungry. Just drink as much as you can cause you want to be as hydrated as possible before surgery. Just keep sipping on something throughout the day, thats what I did. Goodluck to you on your big day! I know how you feel right now since I was doing the exact same thing 1 year ago. Take care

My doctor requires me to be on a liquid diet (high protein) for 2 weeks prior (I'm one week into it today!). This is supposed to help shrink the liver and get it out of the way. The day prior is supposed to be clear liquids. Best wishes on your surgery!

Thank you for letting me know it is all worth it. I know in my heart this is the right decision, I do have a calmness about it, and a very positive attitude, but when a person reads that it kinda takes you a back and you think wait a minute am "I" strong enough to endure what comes after the surgery. I prayed about it after reading and posting my question and a calmness again came over me....so excited I am. I guess my motto is if HE leads me to it, HE will see me through it~ :-D Thank you for making me feel that it is all going to be alright and with each new day, it is a little better and I WILL do fine.

I am scheduled for my surgery this Tuesday and I am suppossed to be on a clear liquid diet on Monday...I have a list of basic clear liquids....and I was also told to eat light on Sunday...not heavy meals. So, should I just do the clear liquids on Sunday also? I do not know the purpose of the clear liquids...I mean they are doing stomach surgery so they probably want it to be very empty..?? I know these are questions I should have asked my doctor earlier but I think my nerves are making my head spin with new questions...!!! What have some of you done for your diet the day or two before? Way to go....It feels so good doesn't it. I really love everytime I get on a scale now. But I find myself saying is this scale right? 310 starting weight 12-8-2006....297 day of surgery 2-5-07......281 day of post op visit 2-15-07. My scale here at home today (2-19-2007) says 271. Don't know if it's right. But I like it. Lets all keep it up! Yeah us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Charlotte

I'm 13 days out.....please don't make a decision based on us. You have to remember we have lost food...are on pain meds... and are going thru a was it worth it stage? I don't think I've had a easy time of it, but I definetly think its worth it. I've lost 22 pounds as of Thursday 2-15-07. So everyday that I shrink and I know I will be here for my kids and will be able to enjoy this summer with them. Yes I would do it again. I've just got to get the food/protein thing down. And one problem I'm not having is very much gas. But problems with other things. I'm going back to work after a two and a half weeks of being off. So hopefully things will be more normal. Please do what you feel is right in your heart. Not what we cry about. This place is just an outlet because others understand what we are going through. Good Luck and I hope you make the choice that is right for you. Charlotte

Hi, I'm 9 days post op. My Doctor had me on liquids until this Friday. Then I went to pureed, but my stomach hurts. Anyway, my NUT said that jello, yogart, pudding, and cream soups are all acceptable on liquid phase because while some of it is solid it becomes liquid in your stomach. Also, I made myself some homemade potato soup. (Hey you aren't getting a ton of calories yet so potato soup is ok.) I made it thick enough to be like a running milkshake. That made all the difference, it filled me up and made me feel less sore. Basically, I took 4 potatoes, boiled the crap out of them threw in some finely minced onions and chicken stock. I pureed the potatoes and stock and kept adding little bits of stoc****il it was the righ consistency. Also, if you let it cool some you can put the unflavored whey protein in it and it will remain stable. I seasoned it with some salt and pepper. I am now using Carnation Instant Breakfast (CIB) along with a scoop of protein powder for my shakes. Hang in there, and see if your NUT will let you have some potato soup.
