How is everyone doing with EXERCISE?? I am doing much better and have managed to get it scheduled in. On Monday I hit the gym for 30 minutes of strength training and 45 minutes of walking (varied incline, 5-10%, 3 mph - covered 2.25 miles). Tuesday I worked and went to school at night (exercised my mind, ha ha), and yesterday I walked 2 miles outside. Today I think I will actually hit the gym at lunch since I have an appointment this evening. How are you all doing?? I have an ambitious plan for next week - 2-3x/week: 6am - walk on treadmill at home for 30 minutes, 12pm - go to gym for 30 minutes of strength training, 6pm - go back to gym on way home for lap swimming in outdoor pool. We'll see if I can actually keep that schedule up. I expect you to hold me to it!!

I walk two hours a day, except for today. I worked till midnight and just could not get out of bed this morning. But I used my Walk Away The Pounds DVD, and did both the 1 mile and 2 mile workouts, so hopefully that counted. I'm trying to join the local YMCA, I put in an application but have to wait till the first of June to hear anything.

Now that the pool has reopened for summer I've been able to stop on my way home from work for a swim. I've been keeping right at 1/2 mile in about 25 minutes or so. I'll work up to a mile and like to try to get that done in under an hour. I spent most of my life as a competitve swimmer and even as out of shape as I've gotten swimming still comes naturally to me. If I don't go to the pool I make sure to get in a walk. Walking tones my legs better but I feel like I've done more of a workout when I swim.

UPDATE: I actually made it to the gym at lunch!!! Walked 30 minutes at 3 mph on a 2% incline and pumped 3 lb dumb-bells with my arms (I am putting my foot down to getting bat wings!! Hell no!!!)

Hey guys, I had RNY on 4/23. When are we allowed to start any other exercise besides walking? I didn't think we were supposed to yet. If we are, then that will be a great change for me from the daily walking thing. Tina

You should definitely check with your doctor. Everyone is different. Depends on starting weight, age, co-morbidities, any surgical problems, ability to get in nutrition, etc. Walking is always a safe bet, but yes, it does get boring.

I go to my personal trainer Mon and Wed, and to an aerobics class Tues and Thurs. I try to ride my bike whenever I can. I usually notice a drop in the scales the day after being active. When with my personal trainer, he makes me walk at 3.5 mph at a 10% incline, but I only do it for 5 minute intervals. Then do core and strength training in between. After an hour with him I end up doing 20 minutes of treadmill. He also has me do the stair climber....BRUTAL!! Jody Parksville
