My daughter has lost about 150 pounds after 14 months!  I'm so proud of her and happy for her. SHE'S the reason I became involved in WLS and finally got mine.

YEARS ago my mother went to an eye Dr in Bellflower, and on the same floor as her doctor, there was a Bariatric doctors office. They had brochere's outside their office & I used to pick up the info and read it in my moms office.  Go**** sounded good but seemed to me to be such a DRASTIC decision. Some time later my daughter became seriously interested in WLS. I tried my best to talk her out of it saying WE could do this ourselves. We did,,many times. Only to quit & gain it back,,and more. I began investigating WLS, still intending to talk her out of it. I finally became convinced this was my only chance. And hers.

Your son is doing GREAT!!  13 pounds!! Wowww!  He's gonna be sooo happy and I know how proud you are of him.

Keep us updated on his progress!

Lisa,

My daughter also had the Rny a few months after mine. I also was not able to be with her (out of state & working) and I know how hard that is. She did just fine too and I'm sooo proud of her progress.

Going through the rollercoaster with them is actually harder (I think) than dealing with them yourself.

He's gonna be fine, especially having the benefit of your support, experience & advice.

That is such a beautiful quote.  ty so much that is so true and perfectly put,
I just felt so awful and sick. Not to mention the mounting medical bills and night mare. We have good insurence and Angelica  and my surgery we have met out deductiable of 7k in jan already  and we have the money being taken out over the pay check for the rest of the year but not 7k in one month and of course everyone wants the full balance when u show up at docs apts etc but I cannot keep robbing my household budget to pay medical bills what a logistical night mare,I am broke tell pay day and I have daughters b day on jan 17, Am I alone in this? I am thankful I do have a working hubby he has a good job. I mean we are far better off then most but first of the year is tough on us as we live credit card and debt free Most docs office want full balance of deductiable to be paid off and with my surgery and her staying at CNS I made payment arrangements but tell insurence gets the deducutable met in the system everyone thinks we owe the full amount ugh a night mare. Only thing that saves us is tax refund but tell then every jan we do this and for my 50 th b day we will have no money. It sucks to have b day in jan no one can afford to buy you anything lol Christmas holidays took the extra money and this year we went very very lean for christmas I spent 1k this year for a family of 11 less than 100 per person

I forgot to mention adding about 2 to 3 tablespoons of red wine vinegar!

I'm on a bean kick lately not just because they are healthy for you and rich in protein and fiber but also because they are soooooo CHEAP! And lately money has been extremely tight around here and I'm trying to find ways to stretch the budget and not skip out on eating healthy and right. So, give beans a place of honor at your table and go ahead and toot your horn about their delicious taste!

Be a Bean Keeper
Beans are an inexpensive and delicious food that you will want to keep stocked in your pantry because of their numerous health and longevity benefits. Here are some of the advantages of a bean-rich diet.

They are rich in protein and fiber! Protein gives us energy, is necessary to build healthy hair and nails, it's an important building block of bones, muscles, cartilage, skin and blood, and your body also uses protein to make hormones. Fiber is necessary to keep us regular, plus it helps to lower cholesterol, and prevent certain types of cancer.Beans pack a powerful and tasty punch at a low price—better still, beans and legumes can be stored for a relatively long period of time. They will keep their quality for 6–12 months, perhaps even longer, if stored correctly. It is perfectly fine to store them in the unopened plastic bag that they come in. Also, you can transfer the beans to an airtight glass or metal container and store in a cool, dry place (but not the refrigerator.) Or buya variety of beans in the can and store them in your pantry to always have on hand for a variety of recipes.

Your body needs fat, so choose to eat the foods that have the good kind of fat. Beans and legumes are an unusually good choice, because in addition to providing the good fat, they are also chock full of protein and dietary fiber. They are also loaded with complex carbohydrates, the nutrients that are responsible for providing energy to the muscles and brain.

Because they have a low glycemic index, beans have the unique ability to provide energy over a sustained period of time by being slowly released into your blood stream. Also, beans are a great source of dietary fiber, which promotes a healthy digestive tract, helps lower blood cholesterol levels, and can reduce the risk of some types of cancer.

To reduce flatulence and intestinal symptoms associated with eating beans, cook with herbs and spices such as fennel, anise, turmeric, lemongrass, dill, oregano, rosemary, cilantro, and bay leaf.

1/2 cup Light Red Kidney Beans has...
120 calories (not bad considering it's all healthy)
8 g protein
7g fiber
1g fat (0g of saturated & trans fats).
21g (good) carbs.
And only 1g sugar!

Now that's something to toot about! (sorry couldn't resist!).

Here's what I've been creating with BEANS lately.......... I don't measure things so you'll have to fix it to your personal taste.

2 or 3 cans of beans -15oz. (any variety...I've used kidney, black, navy, garbanzo, pinto, black-eyed peas, etc...), Draine & rinse beans
chopped red onion (or green onion..whatever you have on hand)
1 can blacked olives, drained & chopped
about 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
juice & zest from one lemon (or use lemon juice if you don't have fresh on hand)
chopped fresh parsley, basil, cilantro (or use dried if you don't have fresh available) - use as much as you like to taste.
3 or 4 cloves of garlic finely chopped

Mix everything together, add a little salt & pepper to taste and chill in fridge. I like to do it the night before and let all the flavors meld together overnight and get nice and cold. I make a big batch and munch on it anytime I've got hunger cravings. It tastes great and it feels like I'm cheating but I'm not! It's so healthy and a much better choice than cookies or pretzels!

I just thought I'd share my new comfort food with you all. It's delicious and good for you. How about you? Share your healthy comfort foods you've been enjoying lately. I'm sure we could all use a new idea in the food department.
