8 Freaking Grams...
I never got a protein shake in yesterday and had skipped a meal so I knew my protein for the day was low... Around 8pm I decided to have a snack. I had bought a sample pack of protein bars from bariatriceating.com and had 3 left. One of them was a protein cookie with 20-something grams of protein and 8 g of sugar. I debated and debated and thought, "Well, 8g isn't that much, especially combined with so much protein, and as far out as I am..."
Huh... Wouldn't you know I dumped. On 8 freaking grams of sugar... It wasn't a bad dump - I've experienced worse, and it only lasted about an hour or so, but it still sucked... The other two bars I have left have more than that, so I guess I'm gonna chuck em, or give them to someone else...
While it bums me a little that my body is soooo sensitive to sugar (I know many people that can tolerate up to 10 grams or so), it's nice to know that temptation isn't going to be much of a problem for me. It's hard to be seriously tempted when you know it's going to make you feel like crap...
I've shyed away from protien bars due to the high sugar alcohol that is in most of them plus the sugar. Not sure what my "limit" is. I've dumped only a few times on strange things...high protein low carb cereal (did have sugar alcohol in it I think), Outback Salmon w/ reumaloude sauce (emailed them no sugar in any of it) and Liquid Vitamin B complex sweetened with apple juice concentrate.
Personally, I like having the threat of dumping over my head. Kept me away from ALL sugars over the holidays. A true first for me!

I tend to be okay with sugar alcohols as long as they're combined with a high level of protein - for example, I can do a protein bar with 20+ sugar alcohols if it's got at least 20 g of protein in it... This had 8 grams of regular sugar, I don't remember how many SAs...
Like you, I'm thankful for it, but I'll tell you, sometimes it's hard to find protein bars and supplements that fit within my acceptable range... I can go to Walgreen's and out of 50 different protein bar choices, only be able to eat maybe one or two different kinds...
It's weird though - I'm VERY sensitive to sugar, somewhat to high fats (don't know how sensitive, haven't really tried to find out), sensitive to SA if not with protein, but can tolerate fruit juices...

I definitely tolerate high fats...can you say SF cheesecake. LOL! I haven't tried fruit juice. Tend to keep away from those from my diabetic days. Had some trouble with SA early on and have been eating things with small quantities and done okay with them lately.
Interesting how we are all human science experiments as to what we tolerate and what we cannot.
Man, I wish I could tolerate 8 grams!!! 5 is my max, anymore than that and I know I will have dumping. It really really sucks. I know it is good that I can't go crazy with sugar but sometimes it is just so darn hard to find something that I can actually eat or drink that it drives me insane. I can also still only tolerate small small portions. A couple of bites and I am done. Really frustrating. Fruit juice is out of the question for me, and that sucks cuz I would love to have a little bit. I am hoping that it will get a little easier and my body will eventually tolerate sugar again over time. But in the meantime, it sure does suck!

I can't eat sugar either (unfortunately, I seem to be able to eat way too much fat...) Anyhow, try Genisoy Low Carb Crunch bars. They're great -- I got sick of the high-protein bars that are full of sugar alcohols because they seemed to make me sick often. These are tasty, 15 gr protein, 4-6 gr fat, 0-1 gr sugar (depending on flavor). The prices are weird though -- you can order online for anywhere from about $12/box of 12 to $35/box (same product). Try myvitanet.com or vitaminshoppe.com. Lemon is surprisingly good and a nice change from all the "chocolate" protein bars.
