Do you throw up?? If yes how often?
I have been having problems with throwing up recently. If I eat something that does not feel right in my stomach I go throw it up
and then I feel better. A friend said she is concerned because it is
not normal to not hate throwing up. I told her I would rather throw up
and get it out of my stomach then feel so uncomfortable.
I started keeping a log of when and what I had ate that made me throw up.
Today none
Yesterday, once when I had some lean deli corn beef, cooked cabbage, potatoes and carrots. About 6 oz total
Sunday, once after dinner at the Melting pot. I was fine until I ate half a ravolie with sauce
Saturday none
Fridaynon
Thursday once 1/4 hamberger with bun from Cook out
Wed none
Tues chicken with a little pasta from Macaronni Grill
Anone else having this problem??? Eating my protein first is hard. Proteing is what makes me sick.
Any suggestions?
Thanks, Betty

I've only thrown up once and that was early out when something got stuck... Strictures this far out are uncommon but not unheard of. I would mention it your surgeon, just to be safe... The only common thread I see is on each occasion, you had some sort of carb - bun, potato, pasta... But you don't mention what you ate on the days you didn't get sick, so that may or may not be it. I do know that many people don't tolerate bread and pasta - it blows up in your pouch. Don't know if cabbage would cause a similar problem or not.
Talk to your surgeon just to be safe - that's what they're there for!
Hey, Betty,
I've thrown up twice in 10 months - that's it. It was when I either ate too fast and then didn't chew well enough and of course I was eating dense protein. I've come close on several other occassions and with the help of papaya enzyme and time the feeling passed.
Are you sure you are eating slow and deliberate? Perhaps trying to slow things down and chew your food 30 times before swallowing will help. Or perhaps you just have a picky pouch. Some people have difficulties with bread and pasta and I see those listed on your list.
You best bet is to discuss this with your surgeon. I don't think that throwing up several times a week is a good thing.
Best wishes, Kathy
Hey Betty, I see a pattern in your post. Did you notice that each time you felt sick it was after something starchy? I don't think the protein is making you sick, but the potatoes, pasta and bread.
yesterday - potatoes
Sunday - raviloie (i know that's not spelled right...)
Thursday, part of a burger bun
Tuesday - pasta.
Each time you ate those things, you got sick. Since surgery, I have not eaten bread, pasta or rice but I do have a small amount of potatoes occassionally and anything more than a very very small amount of them will make me throw up. So, I am a firm believer that too many starches make for an unhappy pouch.
Go a week with no bread, rice, pasta or potatoes and see what happens. I'll bet you will feel much better. Good luck!
Hugs, Tracy
Watch the sugar content in your pasta sauce, It will make me dump big time. Most of it has over 20 grams. I have found one made by hunts that it a carb concious type and has very little sugar in it. I do well with it, but most other pasta sauces are off limits. I think you might be dumping as well as a result of the carbs.
I hope you find out whats causing it. But if not make an appt with your surgeon and it might be time to revisit the nutritionist.
Good luck finding your way through this mess.
Love and hugs

I throw up about once/month to every six weeks but it's usually when I've eaten too fast or taken too big of a bite of something and didn't chew it up well enough. I do make myself throw up in these situations after I've let it sit for about 10 minutes or so and it doesn't seem like it's going anywhere. I start getting the foamies and I just go make myself throw up. I'm with you - if it makes me feel better physically, I'm all for it. I'd rather get it out than sit in there for 45 minutes (or more) in pain.
But, like someone else said - your seems to be after starches. Maybe you can't tolerate them?! Maybe they swell up too much in your pouch.
Michelle
Well, unlike these lucky folks, I do throw up quite frequently. Of course, I'm of the same school as you, where I'd rather throw up than be uncomfortable for 45 minutes. That's a bad thing. It would be better, I think, to stay miserable and learn that those foods are no no's so we learn our bodies better. Throwing up for me (I have a history of bulimia), is entirely too easy.
I'm so glad you asked this question, because I really did not know how infrequently my counterparts here vomit. I thought I was fairly normal post-op, but now I see a problem. I think I'm repeating my bulimic patterns and I need to stop NOW. I'm not saying you're bulimic...please don't get me wrong...I'm just grateful to you for helping me recognize this behavior in myself.
Instead of eating foods that I know I shouldn't (high carbs, for one) and then just throwing up after, I need to just eat what I know I'm supposed to, and avoid throwing up at all costs until I get this under control.
Thanks again!
Julie

Hey Miss Betty
I'm a puker too
I think I have an extremely small pouch, 1-1.5 oz fits with no problems, any more and my Miss Persnickity hollers in pain. I puke to releave the pain.
Pasta and breads are definate no-nos for me, bad pain followed by.. you guessed it... throwing up. Also cannot tolerate meat.
Doc said surgery to stretch it would help but I am too afraid of being able to eat too much if he stretches it so I'm just doing small amounts more frequent. Some call it grazing, I call it surviving.
Do you by any chance have a fobi-pouch?
Try really small meals more frequently. And stay away from pasta especially! "pasta"
Keep in touch! And congrats on your terrific weight loss!
