I'm Gradjeeating!
So, I met with my advisor today to find out where I was on getting my Associates....
But first, a little background:
12 years ago, I went through 3 or 4 declared majors, ending with French and eventually dropped out to work full time. When I left, I wound up with some Fs for failing to drop and a bunch of incompletes that turned INTO F's because I never retook them. Since then, I've attempted to return to school 3 times, and finally, it stuck.
I re-declared my major as Gen Studies so I didn't have to start all over and have been taking 2 classes a semester trying to carve out first an Associates and eventually a Bachelors and at the same time, pull my GPA up enough to qualify to graduate without having to retake too many of my classes.
Well, as it turns out, I've got the credits and have JUST ENOUGH As vs. Fs and Bs vs Ds to graduate! Whoo hooo! I'll finally have a degree! I can't tell you how excited I am!
I've been extremely lucky with my job, I've been able to prove myself where I am and establish a great record, but in the back of my mind, I've always known that if something happened, I'd be S.O.L. if I didn't have a degree and had to look elsewhere, despite my experience...
I won't be able to participate in commencement, however, because I have a union negotiation coming up and will more than likely be working extremely long hours at that time, but that's okay, I"ll save it for my BA.
I'm so FREAKING excited!!!!! Also, in mid-May, I'll take my PHR test and if all goes well, I'll be even better off with an associates and my PHR certs...
YEEHAH!

C o N g R a T u L a T i O n S, BECKY!
Persistent pays off. It's never too late to jump in and get your education. Who cares how long it took ya - the important thing is that you got there!!! I'm a firm believer that we don't have to have one career in a lifetime. We should pursue our dreams!
I'm so happy for you!
