Blue Bunny... Best friend? or Worst Enemy...

So, I love the Blue Bunny products. Lots of good stuff like low-carb yogurt, etc. made with Splenda... Well, they also make NSA ice cream treats... Fudge bars, popscicles... Sundae cones...Can I tell you how much I used to love sundae cones? So, I bought a box. They're really yummy. Sinfully so. I'm proud to say that the box has lasted me two weeks - I still have one left, even, as I polish off this one. Is it a great choice? No, probably not. Does it make me feel almost but not quite slightly icky? Sometimes... Is it worth it? Sometimes... Is it "back to basics"? Definately not... And even as I sit here finishing this one, I have a huge debate going on in my mind about whether I should buy another box on Sunday when I go shopping... 2 weeks for entire box isn't bad, right? I mean, criminy, I'd have gone through an entire box in 5 days a year ago... Am I setting myself up? Am I perpetuating a bad habit? Mostly, I'm just rambling. Even when they DON'T make me feel almost but not quite slightly icky they often make me feel a little goofy... Don't mind me...

Last week I got the Carb Option little round Ice crean sandwiches, they are really small, I was kinda scared to try it but I did & it didn't make me sick. You & i are close in surgery dates, I don't think it hurts every once in a awhile to try new things. But i will not but another box for a couple months. I don't won't to get on that road again. I had surgery on 5/2/05, I started out at 261lbs & today I weigh 135, & I am happier than I have ever been, just don't won't to gain any back. Good luck to you also. Tammy Gunter

I know for me, if I deprive myself of something that I feel that I want - it haunts me and I crave it way too much and end up eating more of it than I should. Two weeks to eat a box of ice cream? I don't think that's a bad thing at all. In fact, I think that's a very normal amount to eat (it's a box of 8, 10, or 12?) nothing wrong with it at all. I'd say that if you feel it calling to you daily and just jonesing for when you can eat one again, it may be a good idea to keep it out of sight for at least a while. I have a box of sf cookies that I keep in my pantry almost all the time (sf Snackwells Shortbreads - I LOVE them) and a box will last me a good two weeks or so. They're there if I want something sweet, I'll eat 2-3 of them at a time (they're like 2 bites each) every few days. I've pretty much laid off of the sf candies - just couldn't bear the gas it gave me anymore!! and boy is my family happy, too!!! But that's a whole nutter subject, idn't it? Michelle

This is an excellet question. It really is. I think it is one that most of us ponder at some time or another. I wish I knew the right answer. To me there is a line between moderation and falling back into old habits. In fact, I think the line can be mighty mighty thin and get really blurry fast. I know that with the SF candy in the house... I was thinking about them far too often. I ate maybe 2 a day... okay maybe 3 in one day but usually kept it to 1-2. Was it triggering cravings? Well, given the fact that it was on my mind far too often I guess I could say that. It didn't lead me to other pseudo-sweets which is a huge blessing. The SF chocolate caramel eggs are gone. The other stuff we had Rich put away somewhere and it isn't bothering me in the least and I won't be looking for it. I said no candies like that til my anniversary. Anyway, Rich bought some low carb ice cream. Been in the fridge for a few weeks but they just don't call my name. I did have one last night. First one from the box that I've had. I have had a bite of Rich's bar when he was eating one. Honestly, they don't jump at me, ya know. I'll easily go another week without having one. I think when it comes to this stuff that we just have to do alot of self-monitoring. If the box can last a couple of weeks - that's great. If we spend too much time thinking about the treat with great anticipation - then maybe it isn't that good a thing. If we have one treat one day and the next day it is two and so on - they gotta go! Buh-bye! I think that any food that triggers old behaviors needs to be avoided at all costs. My "surgeon" (he didn't do my bypass - but does my and Rich's aftercare and did my gallbladder and neck surgeries) tells his WLS patients not to drink chocolate shakes or bars. I never knew this but heard it at the hospital support group. I found that fascinating. I assume his rationale is that it could trigger cravings for the "real stuff". Funny thing is that I don't do chocolate shakes - haven't had a taste for them. Rich does once in a while. My turn to ramble... Kathy
