Hi Yahaira! We are surgery date sisters it seems as I'm on my 4th day post lap band surgery (surgery date 5/21)! You sound like you're doing well esp for doing bypass. I've found walking and doing yard work is really helping with the gas situation. Unfortunately, I've been a bit crazy about wanting to move through the food stages sooner then I'm supposed to and that's caused some self-inflicted dietary discomfort
:-)
Wishing you a speedy recovery and a wonderful new life!
Topic: RE: Band surgery 5/21 - starting over
Thanks for the responses! Jayne I've saved the web site you referred as a favorite. I'm finding out I didn't ask enough questions when I was in pre-op on the post op diet - guess you don't know what to ask when you don't know.
Last night the family went to Chili's and I had spinach artichoke dip for dinner (with a spoon) - avoided the chunks of stuff and tried to chew the spinach whenever I spooned it up. I ate about 10 spoon fulls over the course of an hour. I also dran****d tea with a straw throughout the meal (remembered at the end I'm not supposed to drink for a ½ hr before or 1 hr after and never with a straw). When I went to bed I felt as if my stomach was gurgling and it continued to this am - feels like it needs to go somewhere but I'm not sure where that is! No vomiting since the surgery though so I'm guessing that's a good thing! Guessing the milk in the dip and the air from the straw combined were bad from what I'm reading now. Back to protein shakes and broth today!!! Hope I didn't cause the band to slip.

I had surgery for lap gastric bypass and felt awful the first few hours after surgery very sleepy on weds but then the next day I took a shower and then walked for a little and came home yesterday. i feel ok but have to keep up with liquids and pain meds.I think the worst part of it is gas....but taking gas-x chewables and seem to work good. well everyone wish me good luck on my recovery.

For most of us, Yep! Water does hurt for a while and even still a year out if I gulp or it is too cold. Remember there have been foreign objects and reworking of the plumbing so to say LOL in your gut, major surgery, so yea you are going to be sore for a long time espically on your left side. Sometimes when you eat to fast or don't chew your food in small enough pieces(mush) your chest will feel like it could explode. When they say small bites and sips they mean baby sips and bites. Honestly. It will get better.
