Topic: RE: Waffling about having the surgery
Hey there... it seems like you have everyone trying to convince you not to get surgery.... that in itself is tough. You should know from what your Dr. told you and the program taught you that with lap-band you can eat anything you want. It does not cause dumping syndrome. It causes you to not eat as much. It does take away your hunger because you get full after a very little amount of food. I'm more concerned that your going into this not informed enough. The surgery that makes you feel uncomfortable from sugar is gastric bypass. None of these surgeries cause you to eat mushies for the rest of your life. I think you need to do alot more research before you even consider WLS.

Congrats!! My surgery was Monday 5/5 and I came home this afternoon. I have to agree that the worst is the time before the surgery and getting so nervous. I can't believe it is over. All I have had to drink is water, diluted juice and I started my protein shake today. I am taking it easy, I have some gas pain in my chest. I can't believe how grateful I am to be tooting!!! Best of luck to all of you. Kristin

Topic: Sugery's tomorrow!
I am having the lap band. (that is what my insurance would cover) I have been reading up on the success of others. I have to loose approx. 175 lbs. As I read or look at pictures it seems like those that have that much to loose don't seem to do as well with the lap band. I don't see a lot of people with that much to loose that make it down. I see 100-120ish pounds are the most common but that would not be enough for me. I'm sure it is mostly my pre-surgery nerves but I'm starting to stress that I'm going to go through the whole thing and find that it does not work for me! When I see a success story of someone who has lost 150lbs or more I cry because I think maybe I have a chance...how silly is that! Overall I am very excited. I have already lost 20 lbs over the last 2 months in preparation for surgery. Just that little amount makes me excited for more.

Topic: ingredient question
I called my nutritionist yesterday with a question and she told me it was a good question but she didnt know the answer to it so I'm throwing it out here. I am 16 months out I really enjoy kashi granola for a breakfast treat once in a while. I wanted to try some of their protein bars but they list and ingredient of BROWN RICE SYRUP, or brown rice crystals they only have 9g of sugar but have dried fruit in them so i dont know if the sugar count is from the fruit or what. also is brown rice syrup or brown rice crystal a sugar or what? thanks to anyone who can help Kathy 2-27-07 dr diaz 465-221-175

Hi Sandra, I am also just needing to lose about 100 lbs, and chose the Lap-Band because I wanted the least invasive surgery and the one least likely to have complications. I am (or was) an RN, and have had other laparoscopic procedures in the past for gall bladder, bladder suspension, even a tubal ligation way back. And no difficulties with any of them. Has your surgery been scheduled yet? Mine is supposed to be May 14 if they can get the approval in time, otherwise maybe May 21. I have a Humana insurance that replaces Medicare. We seem to have a lot in common. Can I add you as a friend? Thanks, Sue
