Gall Bladder
Hi Glenda! I have to have mine out sometime in the future. I have stones, but this is only after surgery. Here is the reason one of our doctors gave as to why they don't typically take the gallbladder out....
The gallbladder is not routinely removed during surgery for morbid obesity, unless there is a good reason for taking it out (such as gallstones that are causing trouble).
Laparoscopic removal of the gallbladder is an entirely separate procedure, with separate risks of its own. Even the incisions are made in different places. For most people, removal of the gallbladder at the same time as laparoscopic RNY gastric bypass only adds more time and unnecessary risk to the procedure.
One our website, it has the pictures of the seperate incisions. They really are in different areas. Hope this helps!

Hi Glenda.
I had no stones and my doc refused to take it out if nothing was wrong. I insisted that I was having pains, so he scheduled me for a Hidascan. The scan showed that my gall bladder was no good. He took it out the same time I had my RNY. Ask your surgeon about a hidascan... The scan is painful, but it was worth it. Gallbladder pain is worse.
