Hi! I have been researching this surgery and I really want to go through with it. Is there anyone out there who could give me information on doctors who do not have waiting periods over a year? I will go to Raleigh, Greenville, Morehead City, New Bern, etc.
Thanks--Susan
If you didn't mind traveling to Winston Salem, Dr. Fernandez at Wake Forest Baptist Hosp. has no waiting period. Once your approved, have all of your information, your nutritional eval, and psyc. eval. they set a date. My date took awhile because BC/BS denied me originally. Once I got approved my surgery date was about 1 mnth later. My date would have been sooner, but he had a trip planned this past week!
Good Luck!

Thank you to all *****plied. If anyone else knows of any good surgeons who do not have long waiting periods in eastern NC let me know. Karen thanks for your advice. Unforturnately, the $500 thing is not an option. Not that I would not pay it, but I just don't have it. I am a single parent and a high school teacher and part time graduate student. I really want to go ahead and get an appointment so I could have the surgery sometime in July when I am off from teaching (I work an extra job teaching at-risk kids during the month of June). I am really hoping that there is someone who could do the surgery then, since it would be very difficult for me to take off time for recovery during the school year.
Thanks so much--Susan

Village Associates In Fayetteville, Dr. Classen and Dr. Davidson do not have a long waiting list. You can go to the Education Seminar for free. If you then decide to go forward, you will have a $300.00 deposit. This covers your initial consultation and for them to set everything up. Donna is their bariatric coordinator, she really knows her stuff. They will then send you to a psyc evaluation, nutritionalist and any other testing they feel you might require for surgery. After all of these tests are done they will then fax your paperwork to your insurance company. The psyc evaluation was $100.00. The nutritionalist is filed on your insurance as well as any other tests that need to be done. Unfortunately I think that any program will require some money upfront. Good luck to you!!
The waiting period for Village Surgical is basically about 3-4 weeks to get your initial appointment after the seminar, then about a week to get all your appointments and testing and then the waiting game is due to your insurance. once the insurance is approved he gets you in as soon as possible. Their office really seems to go out of their way to help you in this process.
Hey ! I can really understnad where your coming from. We dont have it to spend...BUT since income taxes came back I saved It and I mean MADE MYSelf, I have a 7 month old and I am always buying something new or clothes for him. We are in military so we dont have the extra at all hardly, we were lucky to have this extra but I can understand. I thought about getting the loan if I didnt have it but after praying about it the Lord saw a way for me.I know also about needing it when you do.my cousin had the surgery.she was lucky to get it when she wanted. She also needed it while on summer break so she could heel up and not have it interfere with school. i really hope you find someone who doest charge out of pocket, i wish i had of. the only one who did was dr harris in wilmington, and he stopped accepting my insurance the same day i called to make an appt. i was crushed. i wish you luck!
Also Off topic but my husband coon hunts with a Will Newbold in richlands and i noticed the last name ,wasnt sure if you were kin.
Take care and God Bless ya.
Check Dr harris in wilmington, hes pretty fast.I was susposed to have my consult today and i called their office 2 weeks ago.
Why don't you try exercising? I mean, your just waiting around for something to happen anyway. People always think that Gastric Bypass is their only option. I'm having my surgery in a week, I'm just having a lap band, but what an awful year its been jumping through all these hoops. It just wasn't worth it. If I had stuck to any of the diets or exercised, I would have been thin already. Surgery is not your only option, if you really try. It truely is a drastic, life-threatening surgery.
Well thanks for your "comment" of support. I have tried exercising....but let me explain myself to you. I have Type II Diabetes with Metabolic Syndrome. I also have right-sided heart failure and enlargement of the right ventricle. For 1....diets don't work for me. Metabolic Syndrome is where your bodies metabolism doesn't do what it is supposed to do. So when I eat...most of the sugars, carbs, fats, etc. simply turn into fat. And exercise you say?? When you exercise, your bodies metabolism burns calories and such to give you energy to continue exercising. But wait....my metabolism isn't working like it is supposed to be working. That means, my body wears down....the enlargement of my heart causes the oxygen I breathe in to go to waste....that's when my oxygen level drops to 58% and my body begins retaining fluid....and it's downhill from there. So next time, before you post something slandering about a person and say "Why don't you try exercising?" maybe you should know a little something first. And I know....believe me....I know how dangerous the surgery is. If you would like, I will give you the name and number of my family physician and my internal medicine doctor. That way you can ask them why "surgery is my only option".
