Hi,
I just joined OH.
My picture is of my bulldog Miss Penny.  I don't have any recent pictures of myself.
I have had a weight problem since I was 12 yrs. old.  A friend at work was looking up the various surgeries for weight loss.  Tell you the truth I am a little scared.  I have never been put under.

Right now I am frustrated, diets, diet pills, liquid diets, gyms, treadmill, tapes,  you name it I tried it.  I think my body just quit on me.  It doesn't matter what I do I don't lose.

To tell you the truth I don't know what to do anymore.

Welcome to the OH website. It is so cool that you have the opportunity to know about this site before your surgery. I learned about it after and it has been such a lifesaver for me. Not only can you read about people going through the same thing as you, but if you have ANY question this is the place to ask. You’ll find the people on here are so sweet and supportive. Welcome and good luck on your weight loss journey… Michele

Welcome Miss Penny and her mom.  If I had only 100 lbs to lose and had no co morbidities I would opt for lap band surgery.  There are people on this RNY site that have also had lapband surgery.  It's a matter of research, but there are alot of doctors that will not do RNY surgery one someone who only has 100 lbs to lose.  I know that sounds like alot to you, but there are alot of us, that was just a milestone on our way to alot more weight than that.  Also it's according to your BMI.

Do lots or research, OH has alot of info out there, and do not allow one person or a number of people to sway your decisions.  You need to find yourself a doctor and seek his opinion too, or your general practioner doctor.

Any questions, please feel free to ask away.

Hi and welcome to OH and the Cali board!!! You are going to love it here, it is a great place for WLS education, support, and GREAT friends!!!
Whether to have surgery or not and which one to have is a personal decision you need to make with your doctor. Just research and chose what is best for you!!
I did read your profile and I can tell you that eating one meal a day is NOT good for you, especially as a diabetic, and NOT the way to lose weight. Just know that after surgery you probably won't be hungry, but you MUST eat!! I have to force myself to eat sometimes, but it is VITAL!!! Protein, water, and vitamins will be key and you have to be willing to comply!!!!
I'm not trying to be mean, just letting you know as you make these lifestyle decisions what is going to be a neccessity! WLS education is something that is near and dear to my heart and something I don't think some get enough of to be a success in this wonderful ride!!!
We are all in this together, been there, done that, and just want you to succeed at whatever you chose!!! Don't be afraid to ask questions because the only stupid question is the unasked one!!!
May God bless your journey, whatever you decide on!!
bigg huggs, Becky

Welcome huffandpuff , my name is also Penny so welcome to my sistr.  You have found the right place to begin your journey.  You should also go to Duodenalswitch.com if you haven't.  I have Kaiser and have elected to have the DS after over a year of research.  Kaiser does not do the DS so I had to request a referal to Dr. Rabkin in S.F.  Of course Kaiser denied me so I took it to the DHCM - IMR and got approval yesterday.  I hope to have surgery August 20th.  These two sites are a great place to learn.  If you have any questions or need any help, please ask.
