I'm baaaaaaaaaaaack....anyone remember me still?
I am 4 yrs out (as of last month). I dropped over 100lbs and gained a life (ran marathons, jumped from planes, went skiing, etc.). Unfortunately, I have gained back almost half of that weight and feel quite discouraged. I never made it to a goal weight.
Actually, I kept the weight off for a little bit - and then hit some bumps in the road. This past January, I was diagnosed with MS (Multiple Sclerosis) and was quite sick. In 6 months time, I gained 50 lbs. Uggg. I went from being perfectly fine - ie: able to walk, to needing a walker to remain upright. It was pretty heinous, to be honest.
However, in a wonderful turn of events, I was fortunate enough to go for a somewhat extreme experimental treatment in Baltimore at Johns Hopkins Hospital. I am one month out from this treatment (extreme chemotherapy to "re-boot" my immune system).
Anyhow, I am here because I am very much considering a revision or a re-do of the surgery. I'm sure my friends will think I'm insane - but what else is new.
So, am I nuts? Do I dare return to my original surgeon? Hmmm.
The more I think about this - the more I think I need to look into this now. One thing about having been so sick - I have met my annual out-of-pocket maximum - and thus - I will have no out of pocket costs should I have this surgery no later than Dec 31, 2008! Ha!
I'm recovering very well from the chemo. My immune system is still shot...so I have NO idea if a doctor would even perform the surgery on me. I guess there's only one way to find out, right?
So - am I nuts??

Yes! Keri you are nuts. But we still love you.
I way very happy to see you post, Liz and I was just talking about and was wondering how you was doing. She is working hard for her up coming bike ride. OMG she is NUTS. In fact, next to her, you are normal. LOL
So how are you doing? Is the next treatment working for you? Come on girl tell me all. YES! I am nosey.
You have had a very ruff year. IF you this a re-do is in order and it will help you on your road to recover, and your docs at John Hopkins thinks its ok, then I say go for it.
OR Before doing that, work that pouch of yours, its still there and still know what it needs to do. Try the 5 day pouch test, and see if that jumps starts you on your way. Janine has lost something 30 pounds just from doing that test and cutting the carbs. It worked for tons of others also.
Good to see ya post.

Don't even remember what the 5 day pouch test is.... but I am fairly certain my pouch has been "stretched" for quite some time now. I'm following weigh****chers and have for a few weeks now, but it isn't making much of a dent in anything.
The treatment was a true success. While they aren't saying it is a cure, they're saying cure....if you get my drift. Of course, I was only patient #26 to have this treatment for MS! No idea what the docs would say - but they're neurologists, so I'm not sure they would have much input. I guess the main thing would be that my immune system has to be strong enough to do it.
I came thru the treatment with flying colors. I amazed everyone. Of course, who else on the planet can go thru that kind of intense chemo and NOT get sick even once! Really - didn't lose a frickin' pound - unless you count whatever my hair weighed - b/c that's all gone now!
Wondering if I should call surgeon's office tomorrow? Or will I be pushing my luck? I also sailed thru the RNY with no problems, ever. Can I go three-for-three? Hmmm....
Yes, Kyle is training for the bike ride, too. :) I'm back up and walking a lot now....which is so wonderful considering how horribly I was doing as recently as 7 weeks ago!

I say place that call, but here is the 5 day pouch test for you to read and think about. Sorry about your hair, but hair is over rated anyway. I thought about shaving mine and starting over. LOL But the gray scares me. If you want, I could brush my cat and send you some of her hair, trust me, she would never miss it.

I hope that linked worked.
Have a great day, I wish you the best of luck in all. Be sure to let us know what you come up with.
