At 2 -3 weeks out...I was lucky to be getting in 30-50 oz of liquids and 40-60 grams of protein...its really hard in the beggining. Just try each day to get a little more in...especially the protein. In the first 4 weeks I was getting most fo my protein from protein drinks and would try to get at least 50-60 grams in a day.I just could only eat a few bites of food at that point. The extra liquids were really tough for me because I always felt so darn full after a few sips. It does get easier!!!!

BIG Hugs,
Lisa

Hi Carrie  I am 3 weeks out and it is very difficult.  I have never had the problem with water.  That I drink by the gallon.  have you tried eating like every two hours?  That has helped me.  Also cottage cheese is my new best friend.  Lucerne has a FF cottage cheese with 80 calories and 14 grams of protien in 1/2 cup.  I try to eat 1/2 cup twice in the morning that is what helped me get through the past few days.  Hope that helps at least a little.  Rhonda

I had Dr. *****Same office as LePort) and I assume you are referring to the full liquids?  It was a problem for me too.  I had and still have a problem getting all of my liguids in.  I loved the SF/FF butterscotch pudding.  I was only getting a maximum of 30 grams of protein in.  The doctore said that is ok for now, because once I start on the pureed foods, I would get most of my protein from food.  I still have to take some additional protein.  I use the bullet protein drinks (Whey protein 42 grams in 3.5oz) I can only tolerate the grape flavor and I mix it with a 20 oz bottle of water. It will get a little easier as time goes on.  I am still on pureed foods for another 1 1/2 weeks and then I will go to soft foods.  Hope this helps

Thanks for your insight. Next week I can start cottage cheese. I am just hoping this gets much easier. I never anticipated it would be this difficult. I'm concerned that I will end up dehydrated.

Try eating ice chips!  That will help a bit!!  And SF popsicles.

Hi Carrie,

Yes, it is perfectly normal to have a hard time eating.  Think of it this way..  your tummy was just completely operated on and changed only 2 weeks ago.  That's not a lot of recovery time, or adjustment time.

Your body will take a while to get use to the major adjustment it has been put through.  It was at least 3-4 months before my eating became even a little bit regular.

In the begining I was no where close to getting in my required water or protein.  Just do the best you can, and your body will adapt.

There was a lot of throwing up and a lot of hit or miss.  Things that
may work one time, will get you sick the next.  It's going to be a whole lot of trial and error, but it's definatley worth it.

Good luck!!

Good Advise.  I as many sugar free popcicles as I could get my hands on.  In fact I still do.  The hardest part for me is to remember to keep my water bottle with me where ever I go and just sip (not drink)  Wed will be 5 weeks out for me, and it does get easier.  The first two weeks out, I could only handle about 4 spoonfuls of yogurt, now I can eat about 3/4 of the container.
