Hey Post-Ops: Question

Ok, so I was always the one who thought to myself, "I'm not going to question my weight loss. My body will lose as it wants to," and that I would be proud of whatever my # was.

HOWEVER... my 4th month out will be this Friday. As of my last weigh in (about 1 week ago), I was down 78 lbs. since surgery at about 3 months and 3 weeks out. Now, of course logically my mind says, "When have you EVER lost 78 lbs, let alone in a little over 3 months?" But the illogical part of my brain is wondering, "Is it enough?" And I know I couldn't keep losing like I was, but now I keep getting freaked out wondering, "Is that it? Maybe that is all my body will lose and I'll be stuck here forever."

I've been working out with a Personal Trainer and she says the weight loss will slow but the inches will come off (which I can see), but I'm still getting freaked out that my body will plateau and stay there.

So my question is this, is this a normal thought? Did everyone else have the same thought? Also, were you scared that you were eating too much or what you were eating wasn't good enough? I eat mainly protein all the time with some fruits and veggies. I stay away from carbs. I don't drink soda, etc. But I may have 1 Medium SF Vanilla Iced Coffee from McD's (90 cal- 2 sugars) every other day or so. So I keep thinking, what if that is making my weight slow down!?

Any suggestions or advice or am I just being paranoid?

Hey April,

You are just being paranoid!  And I say that as sweet as I possibly can!  At 4 months out, you are still just begining and many many more pounds and changes are going to happen.  The best advise I can give you is to throw away your scale.. That first year I only weighed myself at Dr visits to keep from going crazy!!!!

You are still in the begining of your journey.. Keep doing everything right, and the weight will come off!  Your body just needs time to catch up.

So take a deep breath, step away from the scale and relax and enjoy your new life instead of stressing about it!!!!!!!  You are doing just fine!!!!

Thank you Renee. I don't have a scale because of this exact reason, but I find myself wanting to check more and more either at the gym or when I go into the Dr.'s office for vitamins, etc. Thanks for the advice!

I'm going thru the same thing right now.  As long as we stick to the plan we will be ok.  Our bodies need a little break from all that weight loss.  By what you say your eating you will be fine. When the last time you lost 78 lbs in 3 months?  Stay focused on your goal cause it will be here before you know it.

Hi April,
YES, I feel that way too! My weight loss has slowed way down and I'm a scale ho... but I am much further out than you so I can tell you FOR SURE that you are still going DOWN! We all have stalls. I think it's time for another "gathering"....

April your doing great!!  Don't be hard on yourself.  Your fairly young and with the exercise the weight will still "drop off".  I'm sure you have read about people getting into stalls...but they come out of them.  I thought I was done losing and said...whatever is next is gravy.  After a few stalls I got down to my goal weight.  You may not get to goal, but I believe you have much more to lose.  More than your brain can comprehend right now.  Soon you'll have to deal with the mental side of the WLS...which can be harder than the physical side.

I have found the sure way to keep losing...Go out and buy new clothes.  When I thought I was done losing I went out and bought $200.00 of new clothes...within 10 days to 2 weeks they were useless on me.  You go girl.  Brian

Paranoid for sure April! If you are following your protocal and doing all that you can do....your weight is going to come off. I was a slow loser myself and had the same thoughts. I did not lose the 100 pounds in 6 months like a lot of people did when I had my surgery. I was always being depressed, but look at me now. I have surpassed any imagineable goal I ever had and then some. Don't give into the numbers girl....it will all balance out in the long run and heck you are not even 4 months out....almost 20 pds a month girl!! That is friggin awesome! Thumbs Up
