Weight Gain and Period? (sorry men)

I've been doing really well with my weight-loss since my surgery on May 12, 2008.
Last week I was down 56 pounds; I weighed in at an amazing 174 for 3 days straight. I got my period on Saturday and I'm 181! I am 4 months out and have had my period every month - this hasn't happened to me before.
Is this normal?
Thanks in advance for your help!

Jennie,

I think it is normal for women who have not had WLS also.  I used to gain up to 12-15 lbs each period.  It is that stupid water retention.  It does not happen every month but when it does boy watch out.  My suggetin would not to weigh for a week and go from there.  THis is jus****er weight so don't stress.  You may want to up your water for the next few days..  Good luck.

I had my surgery 05/02/08 and since then I have noticed that I usually gain about 5lbs or water weight before my period ... It sticks around for a couple days, then goes away for a couple days, then comes back again for a couple days. It's irritating, but totally normal. The only difference is that I know it's not only my weight loss affecting my hormones/periods, but also the fact that I'm on my third month of birth control pills after not taking them for about five years. So basically everything is wonky right now.

Your not alone. Lately this has been happening to me. I saw my surgeon last week and was up 11 lbs. He got so worried he asked me to return in a month. Well guess what I am down 11 lbs 7 days later. What scares me is I feel so uncomfortable and my body does not like the water retention. My only suggestion to you is avoid foods high in sodium and increase your water intake if you can. I noticed if I avoid caffeine, salty foods, increase my protein, etc during the cycle the water weight starts to come off. I had to play around with it especially when it scared my surgeon lol. He thought I went food crazy. I am almost 3 years post op and have maintained. When I am "swollen" I look like a different person LMAO.

Good luck!
