Hey Lu,

I think there are a few other options out there for ya. An electronic stimulator of  certain nerves can help with some back pain. It can be used as needed or implanted permanantly under your skin.

A dear friend of mine lived with her herniated disc pain for waaaay too long and finally opted for surgery. Her surgery was just 2 days ago and too soon to know of the outcome.

Hope it hear your pain free soon!

Hey Lu~
The thing with back pain and herniated discs....everyone is so damn different.  If you took random xrays/MRI's of a group of people, probably 1/2 of them would have herniated discs, but no pain or symptoms and the other half would have no herniation, but pain.  It doesn't make any damn sense.

So, with that~ in my opinion, you gotta go through all the minimally invasive stuff before running to surgery.  Which would mean, physical therapy, TENS units, ice, anti-inflammatories, injections (I just had some again last week~hasn't helped yet, but have to wait it out) ....you get my drift.  HOWEVER, if you start having any bladder issues, then you make SURE your doctor knows ASAP!

Anyway, I don't know if I am making any damn sense....and I sure know the pain you are dealing with.  Make sure you find yourself a really good doc that can help you through all this.  I personally don't like chiropracters just because I think they can do more damage than good, but like I said- that is just my opinion.  If it works for you, then do it.

Here is a website that you can check out that has a lot of good info on back pain and can lead you to a doctor in your area.   http://www.spine-health.com/forum

Good luck with everything and take it easy!!
