I am sure that he is feeling fear. He once had a friend tell him that if I lost weight that I would leave him. He is the greatest guy in the world and I know that in the end he will support me. The only thing is that he isn't really open about his thoughts and feelings. I know he will come around.

I cannot really add much to what everyone else has said. It is very important to include him every step so he can fully understand why you are doing this. He maybe afraid of the surgery because of all the myths and rumors that are around.

The other issue he may have this crazy idea that you will leave him after you become thin. I have heard this time and time again at support meetings and on the forums here. He maybe a little afraid of that. Thankfully, my wife hast'nt had this issue so it must be a guy thing.........Besides, I told my wife women scare me anyway LOL.

Just ask for his support and keep him in the loop......

Have a good day..........Rick

I will definately keep him informed on why I am doing this and how the whole process works.  I also agree with you that women scare me too. They can be scary at times. Talk to you later.

Nathalie,

The suggestions and comments you have received are right on.  In the 6 months before my surgery, my husband was leery.  He went to support group with me, and now comes monthly and he heard how happy people were about their decisions to have WLS and seeing how well they did.  He is now my biggest fan and supporter.  Perhaps, let him read blogs of the folks on OH, there is so much info and emotional and feelings there.

Good luck, we're here for you.

Thanks for the response. He is slowly starting to accept but he is still on the not understanding side. At least for now I can talk to him about it and he doesn't completely stop the conversation. Only time will tell how he will handle it. For me the decision is an easy one but I have of course researched it for years and finally have the opportunity to go through with my plan.
