BM's durring the first week Or Two

Greetings All,   I know this a delicate subject, and one I wish I did not have to ask. However, my wife is concerned, and wants to call the doctor. I told her let me ask the folks at OH, they have been there, & done that, already.   I had my surgery back on 2/26/09, about a week ago. Before the surgery I had 2 days of bowel prep & clear liquids. On Monday, 3/2/09, 4 days post op, I had my first bowel movement. It was gas, and liquid, and I went about 3 different times. I also went 3 times yesterday and twice today. I am on the standard liquid post op diet, the only solids I have had is pudding, or a little mushy oatmeal.   Question, I take it since all I am consuming is liquid base products, then that is all I am going to pass until, I can have solids in a few weeks? Also, is it normal to have to go 3 times a day ?   Thanks For The Help Family Doc

I did not think I would go to the bathroom, but did in the hospital...and had the screaming you know whats for a while....I did not worry....thought it was my body adjusting and it went away!

BTW she says laughing....a lot of us become poop obsessed!!!!  

You should probably just give the surgeon a call.  You want to make sure that if they gave you antibiotics it has not affected your bowels.  You are right you pretty much have nothing in there at all so to speak.

As Liz said, call the doc just to be safe. I went through the same exact thing. I didnt expect to go for a few days since there was nothing there boy was I wrong. And let me tell you it was foul......LOL TMI wasnt it

Hey Doc..

I didn't have that problem.. I was the opposite, and still am.. I find myself very constipated.. Even when I was in the liquid phase I still remained that way.

Every person is different, so I think that it wouldn't hurt just to get your doctors opinion..
