I am a patient of Dr Hahn as well and just had mu surgery on Oct 6. I am doing really well, finaly out walking longer distance again.
Dr Hahn is great, I actually have a few friends who have had him as well.
I have been pretty strict about staying to what I am suppose to eat, since I am now on Stage 3 foods.

Walk, Walk Walk, right out of surgery, the nurses will get  you up.
I am available to talk if you want to on the phone, just let me know..

I am 57 and I am doing great. Including my 10%, I am down 33 pounds!  I have had the joy in my closet to realize I do not fit in the clothes I did 2 months ago... and found clothes that are much smaller and I can wear them!! I am blessed that years ago, I kept some of my treasures... best of all... I can wear my leather jacket again!!

Kristen

Did you choose Dr Hahn or do they tell you who will do the surgery?

You can choose your surgeon at Fremont. I picked Dr. Chu...she is AWESOME and also has small hands. :-)

Hi - Thanks for this site - it looks like it will be very helpful to me as I start my journey to weightloss.

Due to insurance reasons, I could not start the program right away.  I was referred by my PCP in mid-October but due to some depression issues, I am required to see the psychiatrist even before my orientation.

So, my very first appointment is early January in Fremont.  I live in Lodi and work in Modesto, so this will be a very interesting year coming up with all the driving, LOL!

Can anyone tell me how many appointments there are from start to the surgery?  If I am given a certain amount of weight to lose, and keep on track for that, how many times do you think I will need to actually drive to Fremont?

Does anyone have any advice for me in any area?  Can I choose my type of surgery?  I am leaning towards the sleeve - can anyone tell me about their experience?

Oh, my.....so many questions!  :-)  Thank you all for your help and God Bless!

I had surgery October 7 and I had Dr. Hahn. He was and is wonderful!
Sharon... you are going to do just great. Fremont Bariatrics dept is outstanding. This website and other local face to face  suppot groups will be where you really learn how it really is and will be. I have met a few wonderful people through this site and are Kaiser patients.
You will be more than just a decent weight Sharon... you will be able to LIVE a full and happy life with WLS as your new tool in the tool box we all have in loosing weight.
Personal message me and I will give you my phone number... I am always available.
As you are on here you will from time to time see that people "stall" or get stuck and loose slowly sometimes... and to that... I am there right now. I am not freaking out... it will pass... so for the first time in my life... I am confident.. that I will get to my target weight.
My biggest mistake right now...no posting here in a month... bad Kristen..(that is me)
So welcome to the club... YOU rock missy... !!

How did it go and where in the process are you at now? I have my orientation on May 1st, so can't wait to start. Will you be doing the gastric bypass or lapband?

The orientation was SOOO much more informative than that 45min video they make you watch. The surgeon led it and was very insightful.  I am meeting with the surgeon, dietician, and program coordinator this Thursday actually.  I think that is where they set up the weight loss goal pre-surgery and whatnots. I want to get the sleeve (VSG). It's less moving around of the organs. Which do you want to get?

How did it go with the surgeon, dieticiian, etc.!?? I'm looking into the lapband. At the surgery overview, the instructor was very negative about it, but if they offer it I want it. For me, having a one year old, I need a less invasive surgery. I know the weight loss is slower than that of the other surgeries, but I feel it's the best one for me.

Yea, at first I was considering the Lap Band, but after much much research I decided against it. What I didn't like was the 22% re-op number as well as having to get back in every week or so to get fills. Make sure to check out the Gastric Binding board on here to see people's comments on it and what they are going through.
The visit went well. I have 30lbs to lose prior to surgery so that's a challenge for sure. They have me on a 1200 calorie diet to help prepare for the surgery too and it's tough! I'm hungry! haha! How is your stuff going?
