Update...

So I am sorry I have not updated sooner, but it has been a very busy week.

First of all the baby is STILL sick, and just doesn't seem to be shaking this sickness he has. If he does not respond soon, I will take him back to the hospital.

Secondly, I went to my follow up appointment with Dr. Vierra..  He is very happy with my progress of taking my vitamins EVERY DAY!  But I am still having some dizziness, and have started to have some migraines. He told me to continue with my vitamins, that it is going to take some time. As for the migraines, he wants me to see my PCP.  Nikki (his assistant) said I looked so much better than I did the last time I was there, and that she was happy to see me smiling after my appointment, instead of seeing me crying.  She was just as devastated at the news I got a couple weeks ago as I was. She has since then pushed the vitamins, and is using me as an example (with out using my name) to stress the importance of taking your vitamins from day ONE..

So I go back in one month for my next follow up.  I will of course keep you all updated if and when I hear anything..

There is ONE thing that I asked that I didn't really care for, and that is this... I asked him when I was going to take my first my blood draw to see where I am at with my levels, and his response was this.. I usually don't check the levels till about a year out..  WOW  Holy Crap.. I thought it was at 3 months, 6 months, and again at a year to make sure you are getting everything you are needing, but I guess that is not his style. I don't quite know how to feel about that, but am asking you if you guys have any opinions about  this.

So that is my update!

Thank you all for your continued support.

Big Hugs,
Jenn

Hi Jenn
So glad to hear things are going better for you and sorry to hear baby is still sick....

As for the lab thing...my surgeon did not check labs until one year out so I don't think that is to uncommon...but under your cir****tances I would think he would want to check sooner.  If I were you I would ask your PCP to run labs just to be sure....ask him to check B12, Calcium, Iron for sure.....but that is just my opinion.  Iknow my PCP will usually check certain things if I ask him..

Take care and hope you continue doing good....take care of that baby and don't take any chances....

Hugs

Hey Jean,

Yes I too think given my cir****tances he should be checking sooner, but asking my PCP is a great idea.. Thanks..

I am glad to know that not doing labs right away is standard with other doctors too.

Thanks for being there for me.

Hugs,
Jenn

Jenn . . . so sorry the baby is still sick . . . hang in there . . . that is so hard when they are so little!  As for the vitamins . . .GOOD FOR YOU!!!!  Keep at them . . . and don't get dizzy . . . I know how that feels now for sure . . . I don't  remember if I had blood work for WLS before a year . . . I had some, and I am thinking it was at 6 months . . . and then a year.  I would ask your PCP if you want it done before the year mark.

Luv ya
Chris

Chris,

Thank you so very much for your info.. Yes it is so hard when one is sick, cause this morning when we woke up, now I have one more kid down, with what it seems like another on the way.. So that will make it 3 out of the 5 are sick.. Oh me oh my.. We went through a period of a month a year ago where all 5 were sick for the entire month, just kept passing the darn bug around. I so hope that doesn't happen this time as Disneyland is just around the corner.  Uggg.

Anywho, Have a great TGIF..

Hugs,
Jenn

Hi jenn,

Sorry to hear the baby is still sick. I hate it when the little ones don't feel good. Also, good on you for your Vitamins!
My surgeon also didn't check labs until a year. I had my PCP run a basic lab panel at 6 months. He didn't mind at all.

Keep up the great work and I'll keep your little one in my thoughts.

Sue,

Thank you so very much for keeping the little one in your thoughts. Maybe you could add 2 more as they are getting sick too.. So like I told Chris, 3 out of 5..

I defiantly will be asking my PCP to take some labs, just given my history with my vitamins, I want to be sure I am on track.

Have a great weekend hun..

Hugs,
Jenn

Jenn,

Sorry to hear the baby is still not feeling well, warming thoughts and prayers coming your way.  Great job on your visit yesterday!

Regarding the labs, obviously we know that each program is different and each surgeon has their own way  LOL.  I would suggest talking to your PCP and ask him/her to run the blood work for you.  Like you I want to know early on, not a year down the line.

Hugs,
Barb
