Stuck!!!

So to celebrate the kids doing so well in the science fair we decided to take them out to dinner last night. Had some wonderful broccoli and chicken. Thought I had chewed pretty well. Then it hit. It felt sooo stuck. No killing pain but sooo achy and pressure. Thankfully, I had hubby put papaya in his truck glove box a few months back. Chewed about 8.  Took some rapid relief Tylenol thinking it might help with the Mr. Rogers cramps at the same time.  An hour later. Still feeling a ton of pressure and achy.  Made a detour home and took a swig of liquid pain meds so I could make it to and through the kids awards program. Woke up this morning still achy right under my sternum.  Decided liquids probably would be a good idea today. Did a protein drink with extra protein first thing and took the chewable vitamins.  No vomiting.  Sipped on water.  Tired and worn at work today.  Took more chewable vitamins at work knowing I wouldn't be eating. Of course thoughts of blockage, obstructions, etc ran through my mind. If it continues I will call Dr. Suh tomorrow.  I did manage to fart (something I remember someone saying was a good thing if you think your blocked) and then later made a trip to the restroom where I made a deposit. :) Guess its not a blockage.  Guess my stomach is just sore from being stuck.   Came home and drinking another protein drink. Took one bit of soft food and decided no way still sore!  Don't feel like I am going to puke but man can I tell I had something stuck last night. Its only the second time I had something stuck but it was different this time. Felt different. The time I got stuck with chicken it was instant pain and hurt like hell for an hour.  This time it was pressure and achy now going on 24 hours. Weak and tired but making sure I am getting my vitamins and protein.   This is only the second time I have "any" issue so I guess I can't complain. This too shall pass.

I had to reply to your post because I brought chicken to work this morning.  I always cut it up into small little cubes, except this morning, I weighed my two ounces and thought, I'll just each small bites.   WRONG>>>> my chicken got stuck too.  I felt like someone was sitting on my pouch and then I got the foamies.  I was miserable.  I just sort of veged for 45 mins.

I work with a gal who is 3 years post op and she told me I ate too fast and probably didn't chew well enough.  I asked her if I could drink something and she said NO, to wait about 45 mins and then take a sip.  She was absolutely right, 45 mins later I sipped on some Sobe lean and I felt so much better.   Just call me hard luck (of head) hannah, I will learn the hard way.  I have always eaten fast, so I need to make a concerted effort to slow down, but sometimes it just happenes and I don't think about it until it's too late.

Oh well live and learn.  Similar to you, I haven't vomited, I have no food intolerances and I only dumped on crushed meds given to me in the hospital right after my surgery, never once on my own.

Dang chicken...... bawk, bawk, bawk, bawk!  LOL

Have a great weekend.

Hugs,
Barb

I've had this done to me too many times...I've quit eating all meats with the exception of seafood.Salmon still gets stuck. I'm basically down to smoked salmon(lox) and sometimes tilapia. It doesnt matter how much I chew or how small of bites I take. I'm almost 2.5 years out....Good luck and keep us informed on how you are doing.

~~ It's all fun and games, til someone gets hurt~~

Wow, so sorry to hear about the pain you've gone through but at the same time...I so wish my pouch was "new" like yours.
Please do rest up...take your vits and protein. Monitor how you are feeling and if you feel any worse call your doc. Feel better soon!

I HATE CHICKEN.  There is no way any chicken is ever going to be moist enough for me to eat.   Every time I try I end up in pain and making it eject.  I have tried it 10 different ways and the outcome's been the same all ten times.  So, let me say it again................. I HATE CHICKEN!!!  I swallowed a broccoli flower once without chewing it and within 1/2 hour it and everything I ate after it came back up cuz it was stuck.  The most horrible pain I have experienced in a long time.

Take it easy  Be nice to your pouchy and let it recover.

Look I am almost 7 years out and have the problem occasionally and it is not that you have a blockage sometimes....when you eat something sometimes it makes you feel as if you have been punched and the feeling lasts a while. I am just real careful for a few days....go back to the protien/soft food diet thing. It just really happens sometimes for no rhyme nor reason.

Good morning!!
I had to reply to your post too.  My surgery was about the same time as yours.  Started out at 240 and now at 136 (4 lbs below goal and LOVING IT!!).  Lately I have had a few episodes of similar problems, and think it's being caused because I am eating too fast.  I chew it up good, but it's almost like the last bite gets stuck.  You've done great on your weight loss, and I know you feel great like I do, so I guess we just have to really think about our eating.  I know I'm going to really concentrate on eating slower.  Something I concentrated on in the beginning, and have slacked up on lately.  Good luck, and keep up the great weight loss!!

Chicken . .. 90% of the time a problem for me too!  No matter how it's cooked and how moist and tender . . . sorry you had to go through this . .. hope it isn't a chicken thing for you forever!  I avoid it most the time.
