I will be seeing my surgeon for routine follow up next month, but my question to all of you is:

How much is normal to eat 8 mos out?  I feel hungry alot lately.  I am consuming about 800 calories in a day and I don't know if thats too much.  I am just curious to see what everyone else is doing.

I am sure I feel hungry more because I have upped my exercise,  but I don't want to over eat either.

Anyone feel like sharing how they plan their meals?  how much fat/calories/protein/ fiber etc?

Forget about that.  The questions everyone wants to know...Were you a dancing machine this past weekend?  And how is the stricture coming?  Inquiring minds want to know...

Well unfortunately the dancing thing didn't work out!  Now I remember why my dance partner is my EX husband!  LOL .....As far as the stricture.  it's to soon to tell, but so far, it's been cooperating.  I have been able to eat solid food now for about two weeks.  I am going to continue to be optimistic that it will work this time.

Thanks for the support.  I really appreciate it.  How are you doing?

Hunger does return after 6 months or so, and your should be able to up your volume per meal. My surgeon recommended 2 oz meals to start, graduating to 4 oz meals in coming months, and most will be comfortable with 6 oz meals or so past 6 months. Eat protein first, then veggies, etc. next. Eat high protein foods and make sure you get fiber intake, as well as carbs. Trying to live a "carb free" existence will cause future health issues. Try to maintain the 70gr+ of protein daily if possible.  Most post ops in my 3 support groups do not "calorie count", but concentrate more on foods with protein, avoiding refined carbs in foods. I can think of only 1-2 people out of over 100 I see every month (regular attendees at the meetings) who do calorie counting. One woman had an "eating issue" and matched her calorie content to about 1200 calories, based on a some contestant in The Biggest Loser TV program. DAVE

Thanks Dave.  I am planning on going to one of my nutrition support groups soon in Fountain Valley.  I have been dealing with a stricture problem for so many months, it's like I am a baby learning how to eat all over again.  And I don't want to do anything to screw it up.  I am still getting most of my protein from supplement shakes, and I want to get away from that and start eating more real food, so I think it's time.  Thanks for the advice.

Linda, glad to hear about the stricture issue.  Many times after a certain amount of scopes, that area will just heal up and no more problems.  Others (a very very small amount) will still have that problem.  Sorry about the dancing.  My wife and I only seem to get out dancing at things like weddings and such.
Concerning the hunger feelings, I want to say that I don't feel hunger...Not the hunger feelings like what we had before WLS where we were dieting and our stomach was screaming at us to feed it.  What I feel now is that "not full" feeling.  In someways it can be harder than the hunger feeling.  That not full feeling usually gives me the comfort I am looking for.  I think this is why so many people post op regain their weight back.
When I know I have been eating right during the day, and I get that feeling, I go back to basics.  I start adding more water and try and find boring vegetables to get rid of that feeling.  I tame the feeling, but it's hard to satisfy it.

Here is my basic diet for a morning...it may look strange, but for post WLS people it really is not.  1-2 oz of Wendy's Chili, 1-2 oz of yogurt, some milk made with protein shake (to take my pills and coat my pouch for my coffee),  4 oz of coffee (yes, I know, don't combine liquid and solid...but I do many times...not a poster child...it's just me), 1-2 oz of cooked spinach or mixed vegetables from the night before, maybe a bite of apple or a slice of orange.  For some of these proteins I may switch up and have plain mixed nuts and raisins, beef jerkey, or some left over Healthy Choice Lemon Fish dinner from the night before (I add soy sauce to the fish and not eat the dessert).  I figure if I eat the right things for breakfast...food junk (carb monsters or sugar) can be tamed alot easier.

Sorry I don't count calories...I did the first few months...but after awhile we just sort of know what is good and what is bad...KFC bad...chicken vegetable soup good.  There is probably a good change your pouch has expanded...which makes it wanting to be filled more and more...That is why I try and fill mine with the boring vegetable stuff.  Brian  PS  I'm doing well.  Boring stuff like walking and riding the bike.  My teenage daughter (19) is at home...and thinks I'm out to lunch...Very much like the comic strip Zits.  Later
