Hey Ya'll,
Alot has happened in the past 2 weeks since we met for lunch in La Mesa on Feb 21st. The day after was my b-day and I found out on a phone call w/ one of my sisters that my nephew was in some serious trouble. He has been into drugs, using and selling for many, many years. My family that lives out there have all given up on him, he is 31 yrs old, but I just couldnt. Being a recovered drug user myself, I know the life he was leading and what he needed. I found out he finally became homeless and without anything! He was living in a shelter in Green Bay Wisconsin in the middle of winter in a snow storm.
That was on a Sunday and on Tuesday I got on the phone and started making phone calls and by Thursday we had him a plane ticket and on Saturday he was here at my house. He was ready to make the change and I needed to give him that chance. He came here with TONS of rules (it was like adopting a teenager), and he agreed with all of them. He has the sweetest heart of anyone I have ever known and I know he will make it this time.
Soooo, he was at my house for 1 week and 1 day and we got him his Cali Drivers License and a duplicate SS card and then headed up to a recovery home to put in an application. They told us it would take about 6-8 weeks for a bed to become available, but when we got there, THEY KEPT HIM!! I couldnt believe it, they saw in him what I did. That he was serious and needing this. SO I left him and came home and got all his things and drove back up there and dropped off all his belongings with the understanding that when he is done, he can "COME HOME"!
I feel like and empty-nester! I have cried for the past 2 days with relief and thanks to God for hearing my prayers.
Thanks for letting me vent and release some of this tension and stress.
I love you guys and wanted you to know that I disappeared for a reason and only for a short time.
Hugzzzzzzzzzzzzz w/ happier boobies,
Sweeny

Sweeny, that is awesome news. You are such a good auntie. I always look for the good in people (to the detriment of my mental health at times). You saw something in him that no one else was willing to see. Maybe this is what he needed to stop the drugging and the dealing. Maybe he just need to get out of the area of bad element where he was. Praise God that he has you. I hope he turns his life around now that he's been given this chance. Sending love and hugs to you both. XOXOXO

Wow, you are his guardian angel.  What a lucky boy to have you.  I loved that story, thanks for sharing.  Sounds like you found him the right program too - that he wasn;t just another number in line.  He has a chance at a new life, with a loving family to back him up.  Be sure to take care of yourself as well.

Thanks ya'll,
As I have always told All of my nieces and nephews, "I am the favorite aunt". LOL
But he is in a good place and YES, I am taking care of me as well. This has been good for me, but exhausting. Everything had to happen so fast to get him out of the state of Wisconsin. He has told me he will never move back there. He is going to make his new life here in Sunny Cali.
I am the lucky one to have him in my life!!
Hugzzzzzzzzz,
Sweeny

Hey Sweeny girl -

GOOD FOR YOU.. for being such a caring and understanding person. Have grown up in Wisconsin (and I may get flamed for this.. but it's true!) There is really not much to do out there but drink and do drugs. I had a problem as well growing up, and into my early 20's. Once you get out of the element, like others have said, it really gives you a new lease on life and a new perspective. Wisconsin is not a bad place. It's very pretty, and a great place to be "from". But there are a lot of problems there too.

So from one recovering person to you - thank you.

Paula

Dear Sweeny,

Events happen in our lives for a reason.  We don't always know why, but in your nephew's case, you happened.  I'm very glad for you both, and wish him success and happiness.

Here's to happier times for him!!

Sometimes in life we get caught up in ALL the wrong things, and at some point it just becomes to much to try and overcome ourselves.. I am so sorry that he was caught up in such a mess, but  I am so happy that you were able to be there and believe in him, and help him get the help he so desperately needed.  I know that it is hard to watch your loved one come in your life and then leave, but this is only for a while, and he will be back in no time..  I have a brother who is in Prison as we speak.. It breaks my heart and I wish that there was something that I could do, but my hands are tied. Just remind him that he does have family who cares and loves him.  I hope and pray this treatment helps him.  Way to go for believing in him, and not giving up on him.

I will be saying some extra prayers for you and your nephew.

Hugs,
Jenn
