I wasn't required to lose any weight prior to surgery, but it was required that I not gain any after my initial consult with the surgeon. I actually began eating the way I do post surgery, prior to surgery. Smaller portions, protein first. I did a lot of walking as well. Hope this helps. Good luck! xoxoxo

I too didn't have to loose any weight before surgery, just couldn't gain any.. Doc put me on a 1000 cal diet, and was able to loose 32 pounds in less than 3 months. I cut out ALL sodas, kool-aids (way to much sugar) and stayed away from cakes, candies, chocolates, etc.

High protien, low carb is the only way to go in my opinion and with results. You ought to try the 5 day pouch test even though you are not a post op...it really works regardless!
