Last Meal Syndrom?
My surgery is in Richmond at Kaiser. And honesty is the best policy...too hard trying to remember which lie I told! ^_^

we DO cus we CAN
My surgery is a week and a day away, and I too have had the 'last supper' inter monologue. My problem is my surgeon, Dr. Suh is adamant about shrinking my liver before the surgery. So I have been stressing thinking if I faultier one bit, he will ultimately KNOW. I worry that if my lIiver is not small enough, he may have to open me up and get to my stomach that way...... you can tell I am a little anxious and nervous to say the least. I have decided instead of a full on meal, I am going to choose just one thing and that will be my 'last indulgence'. (I have chosen a hot fudge sunday.) Knowing that this will be my last of one Sunday only to have a million wonderful Sundays, Mondays, Tuesdays.......... for the rest of my life.
Good luck to you and see you on the other side!

We all go through that. I had to go on an all liquid diet for two weeks prior to surgery, But to be honest I cheated twice and ate El Pollo Loco chicken. But in the 2 months prior to going on the 2 week liquid diet, I went out and ate at every restraunt, fast food place, ate everything I knew I would never eat again. I gained 15 lbs in that time. Looking back it was discusting., but then it was like amazing tasting. Now I don't think I could eat anything that I used to, better yet I don't want to. My doctor is not as strict as Dr. Suh. My doctor does not make you stop drinking sodas, or smoking, or gets freaky about protien, none of that. But funny thing because he was not I quit smoking, stopped drinking 2 -6 packs of soda a day and I do try to get in enough protien. But maybe he knows me well and the type of person I am. I don't like to be told I can't. So now I have been smoke free and soda free for like 9 months and I have no desire for either of them. I feel great now. The insane thoughts will stay with you for a while. I shall confess again here. The other day I was starving (I forgot to eat breakfast or lunch, BIG MISTAKE). So I scarfed down two carnitas tacos and some refried beans. I thought if I eat them fast enough they will stay down. Nope did not happen and I had to throw them up and I was sick for the rest of the evening. I will never do that again. I believe it takes the brain a lot longer to adjust to the new me than it does the stomache. The brain tries to trick us into thinking we are the same as before but we are not. We have to over come that, and for some of us like me it takes eating two carnitas tacos fast and some beans and to throw them up to realize that I am not the same! Well that is my confessions of the day. Sorry to go on so long. What you are going through is normal and we are here for you.
Take Care Nancy,
Rhonda
Hi Nancy
Go ahead and go out and have yourself a nice meal. I can almost guarantee that you will not even come close to eating all of it. You willtake a bite here and there and will be amazed how you can't/don't want to eat more. Every doctor is so different. My doctor put absolutely no restrictions on me other than the standard no foods after midnight the night before surgery. Try not to stress over the feelings you are having. They are very normal. I will be thinking of you today and until you are safely home from the hospital! Hugs to you!

you can either stay on track.. or you can go out with hubby or a sig other and split your favorite meal. If you are like me and I think if you are anywhere upwards of 200 or over pounds it wasnt just the wrong foods that got you into trouble but PORTION size had a lot to do with it. Since the surgery is a tool and a way of life, eat normal food in suggested portion sizes. No better time than now to start showing the control you will have to have once eating a normal diet.
If anyone thinks I am all wet.. call me on it.
good luck Nancy, ill be thinking about you
