I've lived in Los Angeles my entire life and for the first time am looking to get out of Cali...our unemployment rate here in the city of LA is about 20%!!
The only thing keeping me here is my government job...it's secure for the time being...
The amazing weather isn't worth the economic decline right now....especially because there's no fix in the forseeable future...
think hard on your decision

The cost of iiving here is sooo high...moved here last July and have been struggling since. Came of N. Carolina and was used to affordable housing, etc. Love the state and my family but will move again, just can't afford to stay.
Best of luck in your decision.

I moved to CA in '83 and I love it. The CoL is very high, but I have found opportunity everywhere. I was nervous when I moved from SoCal to NorCal in '94 because the CoL is even higher here, but we've done well.

Now, with this economy, no one is really doing "well" anywhere. But we're getting by.

I think the trick is to not live in the obvious places. I moved to Silicon Valley and started out looking in places like Palo Alto, Menlo Park, and Mountain View. It was too pricey. So then we looked over in the East Bay and found gas, food and housing enough cheaper, yet we're still in the thick of things and the commute isn't bad.
