Aloha all,

I KNEW their would be hair loss...you ALL said so and I tried to listen!  I'm taking (and have been since the surgery) ALL my vitamins and 1000 mg of Biotin.    STILL its falling out and now I'm starting to see scalp!!!
I'm SCARED and not sure what to do.....
I'm using protein supplements that add up through the day to 65-70 so the rest of my protein is coming from food, but I confess its still hard to find food that I like or can chew slowly enough to make it down.  Alot of what I eat turns out to be soup, cottage cheese or softer things like meatloaf.  I almost NEVER eat meat and very little chicken anymore.
I'm taking the "bariatric" brand of vitamins  a)1-multi b)1-iron  c)2-chewable calcium citrate w/vitamin D  d)1-B (under the tongue) and fish oil.

Please let me know what else I could take and this WILL stop, right??

Whats so weird is that I have NEVER felt better!  I'm stronger---I can walk easily and I do!   I'm looking good---everyone says my skin looks great!  I feel alert and dare I say--VIBRANT!!  except for the hair loss I've had NO problems!

Any help will be GREATLY appreciated!

My surgeon says that the hair loss usually happens 4-5 mos post op and usually last up til 8-9 mos.

My friends recommended Nioxin hair products.  I started using it about 2 mos ago, and I have noticed a huge difference.

Good luck.  It does get better

It's not prescription.  You can get it in just about any Hair Salon.  Look up Nioxin online.  I don't know there web address, but you can do a questionaire and find out what number you need.  I am a number 3.  Once you see the site, you will know what I am talking about.

Thanks for the compliment.

I feel for you losing your hair. That is the side effect that freaks me out the most. My problem is that I haven't even had the surgery and my hair is so fine that I can see the scalp at the very front of my hair line.

I've heard that the Nioxin works wonders to help with the hair loss. I plan on getting a supply and using it prior to the surgery.

Thanks Laura!!   I knew it would start at 3-4 months, and I've been using the Biotin which I read about here----I guess its just the way its going to go, but i'll give the Nioxin a try too!!
My hair, was fine and thin anyway---but this didn't help.
I REALLY didn't want this side effect--but hey!  if this is my only one, I guarantee you it was worth it!!
Hope your surgery goes well!

Get some protein bullets and up your protein with those.  Costco has some really good ones, that come in fruit punch and they are the best ones I have tasted.  Good way to get a punch of protein in you.  I went through the same thing, and now my hair is growing back.  Better than ever.

Good luck, Diane

Thanks Diane!   More protein surely can't hurt!!   I love the bullets and use them now, but I'll add another!

Start taking 5000 msg of Biotin twice a day now.  Before Surgery.  I have baby fine hair and it was so thin I could see scalp and it was getting worse.  I started the Biotin and within 6 weeks I had little nubby baby hairs growing all over the place and it is noticibly thicker and healthy.  Even my PCP has called me twice to get the name of the stuff I take to help out other patients.  I get mine at Wal-Mart and 120 capsules is like $8

I take 5000 msg (micrograms) of biotin TWICE a day and have for the last 8 months.  I am 6 months post surgery and have not lost a single strand of hair.  In fact, my hair was soooo thin before surgery and it is now thicker than it has ever been in the last 30 years!  Take the 5000 msg.  What your body does not need, you will eliminate.
