Soda
Hi Jaime:
I do drink diet coke again. I waited a long time, probably three years, before taking it up again. I do not drink coffee or tea and think it is the caffeine that I like in the diet coke. I find that when I have a soda a few minutes before I eat satisfies my appetite and I actually eat less.
To each his own though. Do what is right for you. Have fun!!!
Hugs!!

Ok I have not intentionally drank a soda. One time my daughter asked me to hold her bottle of soda. I put it between my legs while I was driving. That is where I would also put my water bottle. It was dark old habits so i picked up the bottle and took a drink. BLeech gross yuck. It stng and burned so bad in my mouth I spit it back into the bottle. I have not had a sip since. I was a big time soda drinker about a six pack of 20oz diet pepsi and a 44 oz soda on the way to work ( diet of course.) that was with my 3-4 candy bars too.
Hi Liz,
Yea, I think it would taste gross to me too. I am going to stick with that and not even start back. After all, it's almost been 2 years. Sometimes I see people drinking regular soda by the cans and It amazes me knowing how bad it is. I used to be sooo guilty of that before surgery. What amazes me even more is seeing people who have had WLS and drinking REGULAR soda. I work at a hospital and some of the ladies here have had surgery and I see them eating doughnuts downstairs in the cafeteria. I guess it's good for me to see that because a few months later i see them gaining all the weight back. I try not to judge of course but wonder often why they even had the surgery in the first place if they weren't willing to make a committment to themselves and make a lifestyle change. Ok, i am rambling now. (waaaay to much coffee this morning.)
Take care,
J

I have not had anything carbonated on purpose since apx. 6 weeks prior to surgery. I did have champagne on evening while I was taking ambien. I do not recall drinking it, and I do not recall getting sick at all. When I found out about what I did I went and got a new medication instead of ambien. My doctor is not against sodas, but from what I read it is best not to, and that is what I am sticking with.

Jaime in the 21 months since surgery I have only had a few sips of soda. But didn't drink it much before surgery anyway. I do work with a lady that started drinking sodas right after surgery and hasn't stopped. I guess it doesn't bother her. I don't miss it but was told we shouldn't have it.

In 2003 we I had the lap band done I quit drinking diet soda. I stayed soda free for almost two years. Then Jan. 2008 I stopped drinking soda again. This was 7months before I had a revision to the RNY on 7/9/08. Do I miss it no. I have tasted a swollow jest to see if the taste was the same. It taste very Yuk to me and gave me a stomach ach. I will never touch the soda agian. I do drink coffee and ice tea. I was told by my doctor it was okey. I drink more tea then coffee.

Regular Pepsi was my weakness. The day I found out I was approved for surgery, I quit. Cold turkey, just like that. I went through about 2 days worth of withdrawl headaches and after that, I was good. Since surgery, I don't even crave or miss it at all. I'm not so sure that if I were to ever taste it again, that I could have just a sip. This surgery was worth it to me to give up anything.
