Novacain--anyone else?

Greetings all

Has anyone else had a resistance to novacain since surgery.  I know the meds we take by mouth are processed quickly but what about the novacain shots at the dentist?  I went today for a marathon (3 hour) session and within 15 - 20 minutes I would feel again.  I must have had 6 shots before he gave me the monster one in the top palate and that didn't last long either.  By the time he was ready to replace the temporary teeth I was in pain again.

Anyone else?

Thanks

Sheryl

Now that you mention it... yes!
My dentist had to shoot me up twice just for two simple worn fillings!!! And I wouldn't have needed Novacain if these teeth could have been handled with Waterlase (the no pain laser).

When I went through the marathon ordeal of having my teeth done a couple of years ago...OMG I had the maxium amount of novacaine and it was the uppers that gave me the trouble...go figure...I hope I never have to go through anything like that again!

I hope you are not in pain now Sheryl!

Hi Sheryl,

I had a resistance to novacain before surgery. Twice as much would last half as long. Now, after surgery, it's really bad. Fortunately, my dentist isn't afraid to give me what I need.

good luck. Hope you feel better today.

OMG I never even thought about it but I seem to need more novacain now as well.....I have been going through alot of dental work the past few months and this last visit he had to keep giving me more...I never related it to WLS but maybe you are on to something.  But like others thank god Ihave a dentist that does not want his patients in pain and is ready to give as much as is needed.  Wow, interesting thought.....

Morning Sheryl
This thread is exactly why I love this group; I would never have thought about the absorption factor regarding the dentist.  I don't have any appts in the near future but you can be sure I will tell my dentist of this issue and get his view point.  I am not a wimp but dental work pain is not something I tolerate well LOL  Thank you so much for bringing this up!

Here too, but I didn't find this out till my recent breast augmentation!!..yeah, I am saying " hello that hurts and I feel it" They are like " give her the rest" and that's pretty much all I remember but let me tell ya :) That wasn't the funnest way to realize it!
