An Insurance Benefit Question
Hello OH Friends,
I was approved for surgery last week. Within hours, I received a phone call from a person representing either my insurance company or my employer health benefit (I am still trying to figure out which) saying that she is a case manager. Her purpose, she says, is to walk me through the process, make sure that my needs are being met, etc. I can accept or decline her service if I so choose.
Our first talk should last about a half-hour in which I will go over with her what medications I am taking, what brought me to this point, etc. This brought up a red flag for me. I asked her that since she was calling on behalf of my insurance company wouldn't she already have my list of medications? She said yes, but she wanted to make sure the list was up-to-date.
I have Anthem BlueCross (PPO) and my employee benefits are through CalPers. This may be completely on the up and up but in this day of insurance company shenanigans this information may some day be used to deny me coverage or services in some way. I hate to be paranoid but you can't be too careful.
Has anyone ever experience this?

My insurance just called me to say I was approved and to confirm who my dr. was. I was dealing with the Hospital 's Gastic bypass dept. more then anyone. Those were some of the questions they asked me. Get the ladies phone number and check with your dr. office or the hospital to see who else will be calling you.
Hi Maureen,
I have a 'nurse' assigned to me by my insurance company to insure my good health by walking me through stuff. I checked to be sure its legit. You cannot be too careful. Best wishes on your surgery, that's wonderful. Walkin together, Mary

I have Anthem Blue Cross and I had the same thing. They are with the insurance company and just want to help make sure all your i's are dotted and t's crossed. They're there to help you .... and they do a fantastic job. She'll check in with you before surgery, after surgery and give you a number for you to call if you have any problems. They're an advocate for you to make sure your needs are met and your rights protected. Take the services - I benefitted from it and it's always helpful to have someone on your side!
