5 Years Post-Op Today!
Ok so I’m 5 years post- op today. I started my journey weighing about 245 lbs give or take a few lbs. My first year, I lost 85lbs. Then after that, it was up and down hill for a while…..mostly up. My lowest weight was right about 160. Now, for a girl my height, that is still a lot of weight. I did not ever get to goal (which for me was at least 140) but I did lose all symptoms of High Blood Pressure & Diabetes. Now that………alone in itself, has been an accomplishment. In 5 years, I’ve not ever had to take meds for those co-morbidities. I did creep up to almost 190lbs and was eating just like a pre-op. Although I still have food restriction, I can finish my whole dinner…..(it just takes me longer). I was not as educated as I am now about the rules of the pouch and the steps to be successful. I didn’t pay attention because I thought I could just eat anything after surgery……..just smaller portions. I was so wrong. I did drink with my meals and I didn’t wait the 30 min after eating to drink. I didn’t eat healthier. I didn’t exercise like I was supposed to. I went straight back to my old habits.I do feel fortunate that I have not gained a majority of the weight back…..I do know that it IS possible. My current weight is 175. I’ve seen many here on OH gain almost all their weight back. Trust me, it’s very easy to do. I am extremely healthy , happy and have no regrets of having this surgery. I’m just sorry I didn’t work at it harder to get better results. I am very grateful to Kaiser Permanente for this opportunity for a gastric bypass and for also paying for the 7lbs of excess panni skin they removed 3 years ago. Now if I can just get them to remove the middle tire, I’d be even more elated.
HAPPY SURGIVERSARY to ME!!!
Nadine

Hey Nadine....congrats on your 5 year surgiversary!! I know you have battled and we all have...but most of all I want to thank you for your honesty because it is a lot of hard work to stay on track and after time we all become complacent.
Whether you are at your goal or not, like you said it is wonderful that you do not have take meds for your co-morbidities. For sure in itself that is an acomplishment.
Whatever this year brings to you, I surely hope that it is filled with a lot of happiness and continued health!
