My surgery got canceled
So my surgery was canceled due to a mix up of scheduling on their end.
With all the hoops Ive had to jump through the last 5 years trying to get approved I decided that these must have all been signs that this isnt right for me. So I'm switching procedures. I'm no longer getting the bypass and now I'm waiting to be rescheduled for the lapband instead.
This has been a bumpy ride!

Good morning
I am so sorry that your surgery was cancelled - but I just want to say make sure you think this through. I have to say that maybe just the timing was not right - not necessarily the procedure. When I decided to have WLS I was going to have the lap band. After meeting with Dr Ali (yes he was my surgeon too) he explained that for the amount of weight I had to lose that RY would be a better shoice and would offer me the best results. So - I went with RNY and am so glad I did. I have lost almost 175 lbs and I truly don't think I could have lost this much if I had opted for the lap band. Just make sure you understand the results outcome of both procedures and don't just settle for something you don't really want. I don't want to sound harsh but with a massive amount of weight to lose the RNY offers a better result (in my opinion).
I suggest discussing this in depth with Dr Ali.
Best of luck to you.....

Thanks for your response. I'm definitely not 100% sure about what I'm doing. I'm just freaking out because I've literally been through hell trying to get this done. It's insane how long its taken me. I dont know of or have ever heard of it taking 5 years for someone to get approved for this surgery.
Ive gone through 3 different insurances and had issues all along the way. And then to finally get a date, wait two months and then 5 days before my date my surgery gets canceled. I cant help but think that these are signs that its not meant to be.
I never thought the band was a good option for me for the same reasons you mentioned. I have a lot of weight to lose and I know the bypass will give me much better results. I'm just at a loss with this. I dont want to give up but I just feel that things happen for a reason and it shouldn't be this hard.
I'm really trying hard not to cry or freak out.

Oh Hon - I am so sorry....but hang in there. please don't just settle for something you don't really want. It doesn't mean its not right for you just the timing wasn't right. Just hang in there a little longer and I think you should hold out for the RNY so you will get the best possible results....
Its ok to cry just don't freak out...lol...it WILL happen and you are in great hands with Dr Ali...they will get you scheduled and everything will be fine....
We are here for you....

Aloha Meli- Wow, that is rough with a capital R....in fact make them all caps! I'm so sorry, I read your blogpost from 4 days ago on how excited you are. I have to admit ,though, that I would caution you to just take a deep breath and remember that you will be married to the surgery you choose. In another day you might feel more settled. If you truly want a LB, then go for it...but not because you had to be rescheduled, do it because that is YOUR choice. Peace and be well- XOLori
