Any Idea's or Suggestions?? (Very Personal)
I started bleeding last night.. (what I thought was just a regular menstrual cycle) I was very week and tired, with a LOT of cramp like pain, but still had to cook dinner for the family, so I tore myself off the couch and decided to cook.
While chopping up onions, cabbage, and potatoes, the pain got really bad. I started to feel like I was going to throw-up and then thought I would pass out. It got so bad that my husband had to take over dinner (chicken nuggets and fries like he always does cause he doesn't cook) while I went upstairs to lay down.
The pain was so bad that I couldn't sleep, so I decided to take some Tylenol with Codeine. It helped me to fall asleep, but I was up and down all night with quite a lot of bleeding.
By the morning, I woke up and had to use the bathroom, when I stood up out of my bed, I could feel a rush of blood. I sat down and continued to gush into the toilet. I called Nikki, Dr. Vierra's assistant at around 7 am. She said she would contact Dr. V and get back to me, but that he had a patient in surgery. So not to worry if he didn't get back to me right away.
So I went back to bed to rest as the pain was back in full force. I took some more pain medicine to help, and fell back asleep.
I woke-up a short time later (approx 2 hours) to a very wet bottom. When I stood up to go to the bathroom, I not only leaked out of my pad, but made a blood trail from my bed to the bathroom, and when I took off my underwear, it just gushed and dripped out. I sat on the toilet for a while as my husband was gone, but quickly called my PCP to let him know what was going on. He told me to go to the ER and not bother coming in to see him.
I tried getting into the shower to clean myself off in order for my DH to take me there when he got home, but the blood would NOT let up. I had to sit in the tub as I was so weak and light-headed. So when my DH got home, he saw what had happened and called 911..
They came and took me out of the shower, loaded me (naked with a small blanket over me) into the Ambulance I was so embarrassed to had to be taken out of my house like that, not to mention having a bunch of strangers staring at you naked and in your nether regions no less. (There were like 8 or 9 guys there)
The girl who was trying to get an IV in me took 5 attempts to finally get it in. I felt like a human pin cushion. She was very sweet though and told me not to worry, I did the right thing in calling 911.
They took me to CHOMP where I was put in the care of a Dr. who my DH likes to refer to as Dr. I don't want to do any work, Dr. Lazy.
This is where my issue is.. The doctor had someone come in and poke my finger, and that is it.. Then the doctor came in to see me and NEVER even examined me, NEVER looked to see how much blood loss there was under the covers, NEVER asked me to do any other tests before telling me that I was NOT anemic, and that it is probably just a heavy period and that he was going to send me home.
AM I CRAZY, OR SHOULD SOMETHING MORE HAVE BEEN DONE??
I told him that I have NEVER in my 29 years (20 years of having periods) ever had a period like this. I can't move with out blood gushing out, dripping down my legs and getting everywhere. THIS IS NOT NORMAL. (Before my RNY I only had a period once or twice a year) I have PCOS and was afraid that maybe I ruptured a cyst or something.. Nope, no test were done to rule that out.
He said to make me feel better, he would take a urine specimen and some blood to see if I was pregnant and having a miscarriage (which I knew that wasn't possible) and to check my blood levels.
So they wanted me to walk down to the bathroom, and I laughed. I told him I would bleed everywhere, so he brought me one of those bedside toilets. As I knew would happen, I stood up and gushed a bunch of blood all over the ER floor. They didn't believe me, and now they could see it. Blood clots falling out like crazy.
So what happened next. The pregnancy test came back NEGATIVE (again like I knew it would) and they discharged me.
My DH is NOT happy, I am NOT happy, and they tell me that I need to go home, but come back if it gets worse..
HOW MUCH WORSE DOES IT NEED TO GET FOR THEM TO SEE THAT THIS IS NOT NORMAL.
I have been upset all night, and made a follow-up apt. with my PCP on Tuesday, but that leaves me helpless for the time being.
Am I wrong here.. Should I NOT be upset? Am I wrong to be mad that he didn't even examine me before passing the buck because they were at a code purple (hospital full) and needed my bed. (His words were we are busy and at a code purple and need to get you out of here). I felt like I was not worth helping and that he didn't even care.
Any thoughts?
Thanks for listening/reading.
Hugs and Luv,
~Jenn~
Good luck
Lisa
I appreciate your time to help me out.. I will get on that right away.
Have a great weekend..
Hugs,
Jenn
P.S. Sorry you had such a hard time before and after your RNY, but I am glad you were able to find someone that was able to help you resolve your issue.
I had something like what you have described happen to me twice once when I was 24 and once when I was about 32. My periods were always very heavy but those 2 time I was give a shot and told it was hormonal and given bed rest for a few days and was not released until it was under control.
Find yourself a good OB/GYN with the PCOS you should have one anyway!ASAP, you need to get to the bottom of this and if it continues through the night go back to the hospital and if there is another one go to it not Chomp!
Love you... need to chat... pm me. I am going to be up for awhile.
HUGS
JOY
I am going to call my PCP again tomorrow, and ask them for a referal to an OB?GYN specialist.
Although today I am not bleeding as "bad" as Friday, I am still gushing when I stand up, and still getting dizzy/light headed..
So hopefully I will get some more answers tomorrow.
Hugs,
Jenn
WTF!!!!! Hell yes, you should be FURIOUS!!!!! I cannot believe such treatment from a hospital, they should be reported to someone, that Dr. for sure!!!!
Is there another hospital you can go to? If the bleeding keeps up, I wouldn't wait, I would go back there if need be and DEMAND help!!!!
So sorry you are going through this sweetie! My prayers are with you and I truly hope it isn't anything serious, but whatever it is needs attention for sure!!!!
Keep us posted! bigg huggs, Becky
Surgery was RNY 5/21/07...I can be found on Facebook: anewbecboo or Becky Reddick
As I told Joy, I am calling my PCP tomorrow and going to ask to be refered to a OB/GYN specialist. Not bleeding as bad as Friday, but still more than I care for and still gushing and dizzyness when I stand up.
I will be making a complaint as soon as I am feeling better against the Doc who ignored this.
I called my step-mom, who has been doing nursing for a long time, and she says that she thinks that I am having a mis-carriage. And that it was only weeks into it and that is why it is not showing up positive on the test.
So I will bring that up tomorrow too..
Thank you so much for your concern, and thoughts.. They are very much appreciated.
Have a great Sunday,
Jenn
I will be thinking of you and looking for an update later...
God bless you
The very same thing happened to me when I was in my early 20s. The pregnancy test came back negative as well. But it kept happening and no one could find out why. Finally they did an ultrasound and found that at some point I had been pregnant but had miscarried early (I didn't even know) but not all of the tissue was gone.. That tissue was causing the gushing of blood and would not stop until it was removed. I had a D&C and once that was done - the bleeding stopped.
If it does not quit - ask for an ultrasound to ensure there isn't something there that your body is trying to push out.
