Did anyone get state disability for the time they were off work for their surgery?

When I was pregnant I got 8 weeks paid disability for the pregnancy and c-section, I'm wondering if I qualify for anything to recover from WLS.

Anyone know?

Jen,

If your Dr certifies your state disability you would be eligible.  Remember that there are conditions that must be met.  Here is a link to help....

Hope this helps!

I was off for 2 weeks and 3 days, but the Dr would have put me off longer if I had wanted to.  Didn't feel I needed it.  I also work in a public sector job and I don't get SDI, but I have been in HR and did benefits administration for years.

The normal for MAJOR surgery and that is what RYN is, is 6-8 weeks and yes, you are eligible for state disability. Lapband might be less but you will have to check on that one.

Jen,

I got a whole six weeks off. And "Yes" I got disability, too. But remember the first week you are off, you don't get disability. I had to get it approved with my surgeon and the bummer thing is, it takes forever to get your checks. And remember that disability doesn't pay as much as a full pay check. So, make sure you save your money before the surgery cause when your off & feeling better, you might want to do some retail therapy.

I did the disability thing but I was only off 1.5 weeks so, in the end, it wasn't really worth it. I was thinking "what if something goes wrong and I'm off longer?" but I think it would have been better to just have waited and applied then if something did go wrong.

One month off with full state disability AND private short term disability insurance.  I was pretty much fully paid for my whole leave without using any PTO.

I was off for 1 month and got S D. They base your rate on last year's income. I was working part time at the time of my surgery, but had been working full the year before. so I actually made money.
