Hi Fellow CAs,

I am glad we have a Cali board. I have my surgery on May 27.  I just read the posts on disability and now I am concerned. I've been told I'd only need a week or so off, but it sounds like some of you needed more time.

How much time did you need after RNY surgery?  I may look into disability based on your answers.

Thanks!

Hi MsBlues,

Welcome to the Cali board and Congratulations on your up coming surgery!!!!  I took a week vacation when I had my RNY and I tell you I could have went back to work after about 4 days, but since I had already scheduled the time off I took it...and it was nice to relax a little before going back to work...but everyone is defferent so just remember to take all the time you need...don't ru****

Best of luck with your surgery....

Michele

Hi MsBlues!

Welcome to the Cali board!  How much time a person needs off can vary.  I was off for two weeks and felt great, thinking I could have gone back in one.  It certainly won't hurt to look into disability.

Congrats on getting a date.  Can't wait to welcome you to the loser's bench!

Welcome MsBlues!  You've come to the right place for questions, answers and support...this is the best group of people to be found ^_^

I took 3 weeks off...but could have gone back after the first week, but was told to NOT go back (by surgeon) any earlier than 2 weeks.  When you look into disability...ask about any requirements that use any sick leave or vacation first before disability kicks in.  I don't know if the laws have changed any but when I had my kids (umpteen years ago) that was a requirement.

But I agree with everyone else....don't rush getting back to your normal routine; everyone recovers at their own pace; you need the time off to get your NEW routine of water, food, vitamins, and exercise in place.

Congratulations on getting your surgery date!  We'll hold a place on the Loser's Bench for ya! ^_^

Ms. Blues,

Welcome to the Cali board and congratulations on your upcoming surgery.  I took 2 weeks and 3 days and that was great for me.  I really felt well at about 2 weeks but my surgeon wanted to see me before he released me back to work and so that's where my extra 3 days came in.

We're here for you, don't be shy.

Hugs,
Barb

Hi MsBlues,

Congats on having surgery. My doctor said I could go back after 2 weeks, but I was off for 5 weeks. I didn't have any complications or problems. My job requires a lot of heavy lift, pulling and tugging, so I wanted to be sure I was well healed before going back. I also work 12 hours shifts, which are long.

I hope this helps. Good luck on your surgery, Keeps us all  posted.

Thanks for all the replies.  It sounds like I should do some research on disability and have a back up plan if I need more than 2 weeks off.  I'll definitely be checking in with my fellow Californians. I feel there is a lot of wisdom and support here.
