Dr. Suh Pre-Opt Diet??
His protocol changes slightly, as he sees additional data on post ops. I had him do my RNY in May, 2006, and my wife's RNY revision from a 1980 gastric surgery in July, 2007. I had no pre op diet. He just plainly stated, "don't again any more wt, or surgery is cancelled". He does stress to lose wt the last 3 or 4 weeks prior to surgery to help reduce fatty liver deposits. Rapid wt loss just prior to surgery makes it easier for him to do the LAP RNY procedure. I assume you are referencing the RNY procedure, but he does some limited Realize banding since early 2009. One of the best surgeon's you'll find for RNY though. DAVE

Have you had your pre op appt? If so you need to follow what YOU was told. He gives you a large folder full of reading. READ IT!!! Trust me, it will help you.
If you have just started and have a ways to go, don't stress over it yet. Your time will come and when it does, Dr. Suh will tell you what he wants.

Great choice in a surgeon with Dr. Suh.
He did not have me go on a liquid diet before surgery but he told me I had to lose at least 20 lbs before he would do the surgery (I lost 40). He also told me months before my surgery to stop eating pasta, bread, crackers, chips, rice, potatoes (carbs). It wasn't easy but I did stop eating all those carbs. Being italian it was hard giving up my pasta, but hey, it was well worth it because losing tons of weight feels way better than any pasta tastes.
The day before surgery he will put you on a liquid diet and have you take a bottle of magnesium citrate to clean you out.
One note, if he tells you to lose weight before surgery you must lose it or he won't do the surgery. Definately read all the paperwork he gives you. He knows what he is talking about and if you listen to him you will be successful.
Good luck!
