Hi! Welcome!  I'm from Long Beach too and had surgery with the same group of surgeons as you. I had Dr. Ali. A group of us meet once a month for coffee, you should join us! We meet the last Saturday of the month at Starbucks on Bellflower and Spring.

As far as preparing for surgery you can start taking your vitamins now, you may want to include Biotin to prevent any hairloss that might occur after surgery. Pick up a few samples of protein powders/drinks. Don't stock up too much. You'll have to find what works for you, since your tastes will change after surgery.

If you have questions....just ask! Good luck to you!

Now if you are going to win any battle you have to do one thing. You have to make the mind run the body. Never let the body tell the mind what to do. The body will always give up. It is always tired in the morning, noon, and night. But the body is never tired if the mind is not tired."

Welcome Cynthia to the CA boards and congratulations on your upcoming surgery!!! How exciting for you and I can just imagine you are just hanging on the edge of your chair waiting for the 1st to roll around.

Monica gave you some good advice. Do everything you can to get yourself in a good health mode prior to surgery. You will come through this with flying colors...you have youth on your side for sure!!!!

Oh yeah and go to the LB coffee thing. There are a great number of really cool people who meet up that will take you under their wings and help you all the way!!!

Good luck and again, welcome!

Hi Cynthia and Welcome.  You have a great bunch of ladies in your area to lean on for Support.  They are actually having a coffee on  May 30th in Long Beach so you may want to look for that on the boards.  If I may offer a little suggestion to you.  Try and look at this surgery as a life style change, not a weight loss process.  If you look at it as a life change you will suceed beyond your wildest dreams.  You are about to start an adventure that is going to blow your socks off.  Your entire life is going to change right before your eyes.  So prepare yourself for that.  So many of us have lost weight, gained it back over and over again, because it was all about the weight and not the live changes we are making now.  You are going to do wonderful and I am so happy that you are having this done while you are still young and are not going to miss out on so many of the things us older gals have.  My thoughts and prayers will be with you Cynthia, Best wishes to you.

Welcome!

Congrats on your upcoming surgery!  My recommendation before surgery is to exercise and eat well.  Also, follow your surgeons orders.  Kaiser and my surgeon recommended me to intake lots of protein to ensure I had reserves.

By summer time, you'll be a new you!  Congrats!!!!  Don't be a stranger and let us know your progress.

We could learn a lot from crayons:
some are sharp, some are pretty,
some are dull, some have weird names,
& all are different colors....but they

ALL exist very nicely in the same box.

Welcome! I'm also new. I'm 22 and I live in Long Beach too! My surgery will most likely be with Dr. Chin, my orientation is next friday so I don't have a surgery date quite yet. How exciting your surgery is so soon! Hopefully you can make it to the coffee. I will be there with my mom who had WLS last July    You really should come! There's also another board called "WLS in your 20's" under the "Weight loss related" forums you might wanna check out. I usually post there. There are lots of people our age to talk to

Thank you all sooooo much for your advice and kind words... I think I get so excited about loosing weight and looking different that I forget how much of a change this is really going to be for me. I am prepared to work really hard at squeezing all the help out of my tool but it is so comforting to know that when I am unsure about something or if I fall off the wagon I can ask you wonderful people and be confident that I can get an honest knowledge filled answer. I will definitely be posting with more questions and hopefully lots of accomplished goals to share with you guys soon!! I will definitely be at LB Coffee... I cant wait to meet you guys!
